A government push to bring coverage to near and/or total regional dead zones will see Telstra set up 66 mobile base stations by June 2016.
The first round of this two stage rollout is expected to be completed by July 2016, with locations for the second phase rollout to be divulged by the end of the year. Telstra will take on a majority of the responsibility, contributing $165 million towards a total 429 3G/4G mobile base stations in all six states.
In addition to the $165 million Telstra is putting on the table, the Federal Government is investing $94.8 million, while tens of millions of dollars have been generated from State and Local Governments nationwide.
