Head to Head: Google Search vs Siri

gsri

Been thinking about whether Google’s new Google Search can compete with Siri? Well, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. We recently stumbled upon this video via Reddit and think it quite comprehensively shows the power of Google.

After Siri and S Voice were put head to head, it was hard to tell whether Android’s top PA and Apple’s version was better. However, after Google showed off the new stock Google Search on Jelly Bean I was incredibly excited to see a head-to-head. From the video it appears that the stock Google Search (which will be found on all future Android devices) is leaps and bounds above Siri.

Answers come up faster. The PA voice sounds better. And in my opinion …

Android Australia WWDC Wrapup

Apple WWDC Comm Blogger

It’s a special day in the Apple iCalendar today – WWDC Keynote marks the release of new hardware and the announcement of the company’s newest generation of mobile software. Nestled amongst the release of some amazing new notebooks and desktops, including the much-anticipated Retina Display MacBook Pro and the long overdue Mac Pro was the SDK for iOS 6, the next generation of the iPhone and iPad software.

The software is touted to include over 200 new user features and many more API’s for developers to use, but how many of these are really that new or impressive? With the exception of Passbook, not many! A lot of these features feel very reactionary to those held by other OS’ (notably …

Hands On: S Voice vs. Siri

Samsung decided to take Apple’s Siri on with its newest offering, S Voice. S Voice is exclusive to the Galaxy S III and provides Android/Samsung users with a true competitor for Apple’s virtual PA. Below is a video taken by The Verge of a comparison between Samsung’s S Voice and Apple’s Siri. Siri is convincingly faster, while S Voice appears to have more functionality in certain areas. Both phones were using the same network and had the same coverage at the time so there is no bias either way! We’d like to say we’d prefer the extra functionality of S Voice, but it appears to be far too slow with certain requests. In any case, I’d have to say that …

Google announce the Knowledge Graph… One step closer to Siri?

We already know that while Google originally believed that Siri was essentially useless to the common day consumer, that didn’t stop them  from creating their own competitor to the application. And while it hasn’t been officially released, we can almost be sure it’s close — maybe Google IO 2012?

Back just after Siri was released, we learned that Google was supposedly working on a counterpart called ‘Majel,’ but no official word has been giving on the application as of yet. Now however, after the very recent announcement of the Google Knowledge Graph — which helps narrow down your search — we can almost see it in the flesh.

Basically, as you can see from the video – this really has …

MWC: Motorola is Taking on Siri… Personally!

G’day folks!

As you all know, Siri sucks! Although surprisingly here in Australia it is better than the US version. However, I still don’t want some obnoxious computer personal assistant consistently asking me if I would like restaurant locations or real-estate listings.

At the present time Google’s Majel, their Siri competitor, has not yet made it to the market. But by using Google’s voice control feature (that are already available on all Android 2.1 and above devices), as well as Motorola’s Electrify feature (a UI made for Google Voice control), we’re already seeing Siri put in her place!

Have a look at Motorola’s advert for the feature – Apple wont be too happy!

Remember though, Google is currently …

Is Siri Brilliance?

My life has never been the same since converting from iOS to Android. My concerns about making the switch were made illegitimate from the beginning by my already Android-using friends; I explained to them my love for Apple’s simplicity and features, but they had a comeback for everything I said.

When the 4S was released it seemed a turning point in my arguments with Android users. Siri emerged as my rebuttal to almost any argument. My friends would bombard me with names of great features that were to be released in new Samsung, Motorola and Sony phones, yet I could break away just by mentioning her name.

The idea of Siri was fantastic and as soon as possible I found myself

“Majel”: Google’s response to Apple’s “Siri”

Apple’s voice-activated assistant, Siri, has gotten a lot of press lately in the Android arena. There are numerous Siri copies on the Android Market, which lacks the same content approval process as the Apple App Store. Many of these Siri-copycats for sale are of poor quality – usually identical in functionality to the existing Google Voice Actions app. Some even retain many iPhone icons, as seen in Official Apps’ Siri for Android, which was pulled from the Marketplace by Google today.

But Android users need not fret or feel left in the dark – the team at Google are apparently working on their own official voice-activated assistant at their top-secret development facility, Google X Labs. Similar to the Bell Labs
