ICS & Jelly Bean powering nearly 30% of Android devices
As with every month, Google/Android release the numbers on Android operating system distribution for all Android devices. While the numbers aren’t that surprising, it’s good to see that the newer OS versions are starting to make some headway in the greater scheme of things.
It is, however, a shame that the most popular Android operating system is one that was first launched way back when in 2010. We’re almost at 2013 (if the world doesn’t end first) and Android 2.3.x Gingerbread is still powering 54.2% of Android devices, just down a few percentage points from last month.

As happens on a monthly basis, Google has released the stats on who is using what OS version! Ice Cream Sandwich has increased by leaps and bounds, Jelly Bean is about to hit 1% and every older version of Android has decreased. It seems to me like we’ll finally be seeing a constant increase of newer version, accompanied by a constant decrease of older versions. In fact, I believe this is the first time that Gingerbread has decreased since it was first launched in 2010.
This increase of newer versions is due to more OS updates, newer phones coming out with newer Android version (except, of course, for Sony). It’s really great to see that the newest version of Android, …
