‘A Superphone that ticks all the big boxes’

The second half of 2011 wasn’t a great time for HTC. Far too many phones were released, confusing consumers, and some phones were just plain bad. That’s not to say that HTC didn’t release some excellent phones (Sensation, I’m looking at you) but it wasn’t enough to stop a disappointing drop in profits, particularly against some very stiff competition from the likes of the Galaxy S II, the standout Android phone of 2011. The One X sits at the top of HTC’s lineup as the hero phone it hopes will return it to glory. Competing against the likes of the Galaxy S III, the Motorola RAZR line, and the …

HTC preparing to submit Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to Vodafone for One X

Vodafone Update testing

Looky, looky – it’s not just Samsung fans who should be getting excited about the impending Jelly Bean update. Vodafone announced last week that Samsung had submitted the Jelly Bean update on the Galaxy S III to Vodafone for testing. Now, HTC have begun preparing their update to Vodafone which means it should be in their labs in the coming 1-2 weeks.

The update isn’t here just yet, but Vodafone have let everyone know that HTC are getting ready. HTC previously said on Twitter that the update would be out by the end of October and it looks like they’re making good on that statement. Telstra has previously said that HTC will be submitting the update for the One XL …

HTC, Samsung to submit Jelly Bean updates to Telstra for One XL, One S, SGS3, Galaxy Nexus end of October

telstra_logos-623x288

We all love Jelly Bean, don’t we. Well, four of the major phones from Telstra that we already knew were in line to receive some sweet Jelly are getting a bit closer to that fanciful moment. Telstra has updated its community support page to let us all know of the upcoming updates.

It appears as though HTC, Samsung and Google’s flagship phones are getting closer to an update, with the OEMs all expected to give Telstra their update software by the end of October. Take note that this is only the first software submission, with the likely possibility of the need for further editions. If there are, however, no hiccups then we may see some Jelly Bean updates rolling in …

Android 4.0.4 rolling out to the Telstra HTC One XL

HTC-One-XL-Product-Overview-HTC-Smartphones-560x288

One of the most annoying things about a great phone is losing screen real-estate. This is the case with the HTC One XL and the lack of on-screen buttons and no capacitive menu button. However, with the latest update to Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1 we are seeing a new option to duplicate the multi-task button to fix the solution. Easy, one tap for menu, hold down for multi-task. You just bought yourself an extra centimetre of screen with an easy update.

The update also brings a variety of bug fixes, battery enhancers and the usual garble. You know the drill – head over to the Settings -> About -> Software Update -> Check Now and see if you’ve got …

HTC One X to receive Jelly Bean by October/Christmas, One X+ to launch in same time-frame?

htc-one-x-jelly-bean

Well this is some exciting news! It looks like HTC’s major flagship phone, the One X, is in line to be receiving some nice and buttery Jelly Bean goodness shortly. Paul O’Brien of MoDaCo has reported that they have heard a bit about HTC’s update plans. The international (unbranded) variant of the One X will supposedly be updated to Jelly Bean in October, with carrier branded versions to follow suit by Christmas – or at least that is the hope.

Unfortunately, there’s no news on the One S and it’s prospective update.

This is what the man Paul O’Brien himself had to say:

If you’re using a generic device you don’t have too long to wait… HTC will be starting

Brad-Pitt-fight-club-body

Unless you were living under a rock, you probably have heard that last night the iPhone 5 was announced. If you were living under a rock, it’s a good thing you apparently have internet under that rock so you can read this post. The more diligent tech enthusiasts out there are probably also aware that about a week ago Nokia announced the Nokia Lumia 920. This represents the first announced Windows 8 phone, and so gives us an insight into what we can expect on Windows 8 phones.

Jelly Bean for Telstra HTC One XL coming in the ‘next couple of months’

htcjb

Telstra has just tweeted in a response to Mobile Nova that the next update in  line for the HTC One XL is the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, scheduled “in the next couple of months.”

The Telstra rep also stated that the Android 4.0.4 update which is rolling out around the world should be coming to the One XL. However, the Jelly Bean update is the only one in the schedule at the moment. The 4.0.4 update comes with Sense 4.1, which gives you the ability to move the hideous menu button to a new position. You are given the choice to override the multi-tasking capacitive button and make it act as the menu button.

jhtc

HTC have recently confirmed that a few of their One series phones will in fact be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The only phone to miss out on an official announcement is the One V, but I guess that is expected as it is the weakest of the bunch. Here’s HTC’s official word on the matter.

We know HTC fans are excited to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android. At this point in time, we can confirm that we have plans to upgrade our HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S to Jelly Bean. Please stay tuned for more updates regarding device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Jelly Bean.

Telstra officially launches the HTC One XL

Ladies and Gentlemen, the wait is over! Just as we expected, Telstra has today launched the HTC One XL and answered our questions about the “One thing we have been asking for” – hoorah!

The One XL is the 4G LTE enabled version of the incredibly popular HTC One X. The only other difference is that the XL is featuring a 1.5GHz dual-core S4 processor, rather than the quad-core Tegra 3. Even though it may only have half the cores, the S4 is an incredibly powerful processor capable of handling pretty much anything that is thrown at it – including 4G LTE.

The One XL is being offered for $0 upfront on Telstra’s $79 per month Freedom Connect plan …

Video: Telstra HTC One XL, details to be revealed tomorrow

That’s right, Telstra is set to be announcing details on the “One thing [we've] all been asking about” tomorrow. Telstra has informed everyone via the good-old Facebook that the wait is over:

This is truly exciting as this is One phone that I know many of our readers have been impatiently waiting for. Since the One X was launched almost two months ago, it has been a long and tiring wait for Telstra to officially announce the One XL – and they’re right, we have all been asking!

Ausdroid were lucky enough to catch Telstra’s official launch video after it was accidentally leaked. Telstra seem to have a focus on the software found on the phone, being Android 4.0 ICS …
