State Library of NSW chooses the Nexus 7 to show off its exhibits
Nine months on, I can’t stress enough how much I love my Nexus 7. As a daily consumption device, it’s just so portable, fits perfectly in the hands (any wider and I think it’d be uncomfortable to hold it in one hand), easy on the eyes, and offers a smooth and rich experience. Sure the next generation Nexus 7 which is expected to be announced next month at Google I/O with higher resolution and who knows what other goodies will probably sway me to upgrade but for now I still use my Nexus 7 daily.
Well, unsurprisingly, I’m not alone!
The State Library of NSW has developed an app that offers visitors an interactive experience by providing visual and …
What’s better than a Nexus 7? A second generation Nexus 7?
Are you reading this on a Nexus 7? Or perhaps you keep one besides your bed because they’re just so convenient.
The Nexus 7 has already won the hearts (and hard earned cash) of many, picking up awards like T3′s Gadget of the Year, and will surpass 6 million shipments by the end of January (with the higher capacity models unsurprisingly the better sellers). But what would make the Nexus 7 even better? 1080p perhaps? What about a thinner bezel?
Well guess what… Rumours are that Google is working with none other than ASUS (again) on a second generation Nexus 7 device. The second generation Nexus 7 is expected to have a 1080p display, a thinner bezel and an …
ASUS about to bring out a landscape Nexus 7 dock at the beginning of December?
If you’ve got an ASUS Nexus 7 or are simply one of us in the Android world, you’d know that the Nexus 7 is sorely missing one thing – a viable dock. However, it looks like this all may be changing shortly. A tipster of Android Central has pointed them (and now the rest of the world) in the direction of a stock listing on ASUS Japan’s website. That is, of a docking station for the Nexus 7 that will retail for around $35 and hold the N7 in it’s landscape orientation (cough 4.1.2 cough).
I for one wouldn’t have too much use for a dock, using the Nexus 7 mostly as a portable device and not something that …
Quick Check to See What Nexus Devices are Available, Where.
I’m sure I’m not the only person hanging out to get my hands on a juicy juicy Nexus device (Nexus 4 for me!) after the ridiculously fast sell-out when it launched 2 weeks ago. Well if you want a minimalist alternative to constantly hitting F5 on the Google Play site, may I recommend this handy website.
It’s simple, you select the Nexus device you’re interested in, and it will tell you if it’s available in each and every nation that has Google Play Devices. Alternatively, pick a country, and it will tell you whether each device (or varient of a device) is available in that country.
It’s certainly much cleaner that the official Google Play website, and looks more …
Go Google! Nexus 7 sales to reach 5 million in 2012
Hot on the heels of ASUS’ announcements that they sold nearly a million Nexus 7s in October alone, and that every shipment to Australia sells out within 1-2 weeks, Digitimes have reported that Google has sold about 2.5 million Nexus 7s to date and expects to sell another 2.5m by the end of the year. That means 5 million Nexus 7s in 2012 – which is double Google’s initial estimates.
Why is the Nexus 7 expected to exceed Google’s expectations by 200%?
We think it’s due to the Nexus 7 being such an awesome tablet for an amazing price. As you would have seen in our review, many of us have fallen in love with the Nexus 7′s …

Although the Android 4.2 update for the Nexus 7 went out in the last couple of days internationally, many Australians were still left without any update. So, you know the drill. Head over to Settings -> About Device -> Software Update -> Check Now to see if your device has the update ready. Otherwise, you’ll likely wake up to a lovely notification alerting you to the update over the next few days.

A couple Japanese Nexus 7 advertisements that will warm your heart
ASUS/Google have released a new commercial for the Nexus 7 in Japan which is taking YouTube by storm. Without any words, Google have encapsulated how their flagship 7″ tablet flows seamlessly into every aspect of a rich life.
The brief storyline follows a man fishing with his children, who casually play games on the Nexus 7. The charming ad, which is almost a short film in itself then shows the man using the tablet for everything, from watching instruction videos on how to clean his fish to being a lantern while he sets up for a beach party, and finally as a mini piano for entertainment with friends around the bonfire.
To highlight the versatility and usability of the device, …
32GB Nexus 7 now available in Google Play Australia, goodbye 8GB version
So, Google announced the other day that we’d soon be privy to some Nexus 7 devices with a larger storage. That is, the bump from 16GB of internal storage to a more cumbersome 32GB. But, what’s even better? The 32GB has taken the price-tag from the 16GB and filled in the $299 slot, with the 16GB version slipping down to $249. It appears as though the 8GB version has finally left the Play Store and none of us have to deal with that abysmal storage option any more.
With 32GB you’ll be able to do so much more with your Nexus 7. You’ll be able to store more music, more maps, more games, more apps, more videos. You get …
Android 4.2 coming to the Nexus 7 in the ‘very near future’?
Google recently announced Android 4.2 this week, which will be bring a lot of new features to the Android OS. Although the name from 4.1, Jelly Bean, will be carried over to 4.2 we’ll still be seeing some great new fancy features. Overall, the OS will remain very similar with some minor tweaks and the addition of some cool new software. In fact, we went through a bit of it when we spoke about the three features we’re most excited for in Android 4.2.
Well, Google have announced that the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 will be shipping with Android’s latest and greatest – 4.2 Jelly Bean. However, the Nexus 7 is still stuck on Android 4.1. But, for …
Nexus 7: Thanks a million!
Our favourite 7-inch tablet, Google’s Nexus 7, is encroaching on a nice “little” milestone.
Prior to today we hadn’t heard any official sales figures on the Nexus 7; apart from ASUS Australia advising us that every shipment to Australia was selling within 1-2 weeks, and estimations that Google had sold 1 million via Google Play.
Well today The Verge reported that the Nexus 7 has nearly reached one million sales within a single month! Says ASUS Chief Financial Officer David Chang to the Wall Street Journal:
At the beginning, it was, for instance, 500K units a month, then maybe 600, 700K. This latest month, it was close to one million.
Making some assumptions and extrapolating David’s figures, if …
How do the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 Compare to the Competition?
Everyone loves a good spec table right? Well here at Android Australia we aim to please our readers and give them their spec table fill. Today we’re pitting the just-released Nexus 7 3G and Nexus 10 tablets against their opposition in both the 10 inch and 7 inch markets.
Lets start with the big boys in the 10 inch category. The brand new Nexus 10, built by Samsung, certainly has some lovely specifications, not the least of which is that new screen, but just how does it compare the competition? We’ve compared it to the ASUS Transformer Infinity 700, arguably the finest Anrdoid tablet around, as well as the new iPad, undoubtedly the device to beat in this segment. Finally, …
