Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Vodafone

Vodafone Update testing

Well, what do you know. Things have been fairly quiet on the Jelly Bean update cycle and no one really knew if some of Samsung’s major phones would get the update or not. It turns out that Samsung’s flagship phones of 2011 will in fact be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. That is the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy S II. Oh, and, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will also be getting a little sweet Jelly Bean treatment.

For those of you who are still keen to hold onto your older phones rather than updating – this is great news! We’re not sure when to expect the updates, but Samsung is preparing the update for submission to Vodafone to …

Telstra Samsung Galaxy Note receiving Ice Cream Sandwich

GNOTETICS

We’ve received word yesterday from a few readers that their Galaxy Notes on the Telstra network are receiving notifications for the ICS update. After a bit of waiting and a bit of confirmation (users of Telstra Crowd Support also have the update), it seems as though the update is in fact live!

If you go to Telstra’s software update page you’ll see that the update has been approved by Telstra and is pending a roll-out by the vendor (Samsung). The latest estimate is to begin between August 20-21st and that seems to be just spot on!

If you haven’t received the update yet then head over to the Settings -About -Software Update -Check Now and just …

Samsung’s BT S Pen let’s you make calls from your Stylus

spenbc6q1395

Samsung have just brought out a brand new little goody. It’s called the BT S Pen and is in direct competition with ASUS’ stylus that comes with the PadFone – bad luck ASUS, looks like Samsung are getting this mainstream first.

The BT S Pen is very similar to the Samsung’s very successful S Pen. It has the same functions, the same features – but one thing that is just so different. You may have picked it, but the BT stands for Bluetooth. Yes, this pen is packed with Bluetooth, a microphone and a little speaker. The BT S Pen allows you to make calls through your pen!

How does it work?
The BT S Pen pairs to your Galaxy …

Rumour: Samsung Galaxy S III, S II, Note, Note II to receive Jelly Bean update before year’s end

screenshot-20120807-134529

There is an unofficial report coming from Samsung enthusiast site, Sammobile, that Samsung’s flagship devices from 2011 and 2012 will be updated to Jelly Bean. Well, the Galaxy S III and Note II are pretty much in order to get the update out and the Galaxy S II and original Note may be seeing a Value Pack (of most of the features but not the full update).

The device updates are currently being tested by Samsung behind the scenes and have apparently been moving along quite smoothly. Test firmwares have apparently passed and the updates are soon heading to public versions of the testing. Of course, we must take this with a grain of salt, but it looks like …

Vodafone Samsung Galaxy Note being updated to ICS tomorrow

GNote-ICS-Vodafone

Vodafone has updated their blog today with some great news for all Samsung Galaxy Note users! I know I say it a lot but now is really the time to cheer and shout. All Samsung Galaxy Notes that have been purchased from Vodafone are being updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tomorrow at 1pm!

The update will be rolled out in ‘a staged process’ which means that not everyone will get the update at once. Do not fear though, it shouldn’t take more than a week at most to get the update.

The update will be available OTA (Over The Air) or via Samsung’s Kies software. Just wait for the clock to tick over to the magical 1 tomorrow …

Samsung to release Note 10.1 on August 15th and Note II on August 29th

gsmarena_007

Following many rumours and reports we are now confident that Samsung will release the Note 10.1 on August 15th and the Note II on August 29th.

We reported earlier that Samsung were sending out invitations in the USA for a date claimer for the 15th of August to “meet the next Galaxy.” At that time we were fairly confident of NOT seeing the Note II as the invitation was from Samsung Electronics America, not Samsung Telecommunications America which usually handles the phone releases.

Well, thanks to our friends at GSM Arena it seems this is now confirmed to be for the Note 10.1. Retailers are releasing stock and unboxing pics and some even tweeting they will release the quad-core, …

Optus Samsung Galaxy Note to receive ICS soon

OptusNoteICS

Just as Vodafone broke news that the Galaxy Note would soon be receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Optus have had the same information hidden away for some time now. It really is a shame how hard Optus make it to find their software update page.

What’s interesting about Optus’ updates is that the telco themselves are incredibly quiet on the update front. We don’t know when the update will be coming and neither do they it seems. The Galaxy Note is on the same status as the Motorola RAZR, however, the RAZR’s update started rolling out this week.

Samsung to unveil a new Galaxy Note on August 29

galaxy dddd

Well this is something quite juicy!

Reuters has just reported that Samsung will in fact be unveiling the newest Galaxy Note iteration on August 29th, just before IFA 2012.

A Samsung rep has said to Reuters:

We plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin on August 29.

We can’t be sure if this another phone (e.g. the Galaxy Note 2) or the Galaxy Note 10.1, which we already know quite a bit about. Reuters are suggesting that we will be seeing the much rumoured Galaxy Note 2, which is rumoured to have some incredibly exciting specs.

We are expecting to see something with a 5.5″ mammoth screen, the quad-core Exynos 4 processor, …

Samsung goes behind the scenes at the Olympics

SOL

Just a quick one here.

As we all know, Samsung is the worldwide major sponsor of the Olympics. As such they place extraordinary ads all over the place and have their phones feature in the opening ceremony. Well, it appears that Samsung had a little bit more to do with the opening ceremony and following proceedings than I had thought.

Olympic organizers like Head of Ceremonies Martin Green have apparently been using Samsung Galaxy Notes and Galaxy S IIIs to get organised with the team. He makes specific mention of the S Pen and its ability to help him work together with colleagues when they cannot meet. The video doesn’t really show too much off but gives that little bit …

Screen shot 2012-07-09 at 1.46.55 PM

Are you an Australian university student who at some point sat around with their friends and discussed making a clever app that would make you all millionaires? Well, the following competition might be right up your alley.

While the prize might not be enough to fund your wildest imaginations, the Innovate With a Mate competition is a chance for young app developers to leave their mark in a very competitive market. The description of the competition which is found on the competition’s official website is as follows:
