ASUS announces the Trio, new Infinity Transformer, MeMo Pad, fonePad Note at Computex 2013

Screen Shot 2013-06-03 at 5.32.02 PM

When ASUS chairman Jonney Shih took the stage yesterday at Computex 2013 he made a big deal of the word revolutionary. He proclaimed that ASUS was revolutionary in almost every area they produce products and threw the word around like he was Steve Jobs. He said a lot of stuff, announced MANY products and had some fun on stage with some “beautiful models” – it was quite a watch.

We seek to perfect the balance between engineering and humanity, where every intricate detail echoes our needs for both emotion and function … This is the ASUS way of Design Thinking, where every idea starts with people and we turn our imagination into myriad revolutionary innovations.

Anyway, ASUS actually did announce …

Originally on Android Police

Google has just begun rolling out it’s new Gmail application for Android and the web. In short, the app basically helps you to sift through your inbox quickly and get to the news that you want. Labels are nicer and your social feeds, promotions and ‘real’ emails are all separated – phew!

The app also features a slide-out settings bar for ease-of-use, as well as a swipe-to-refresh action.

You can head over to the Google Play store and await the update, but that may take weeks. Otherwise, head over to the guys at Android Police for some apk downloads.

Twitter’s short-video-sharing app Vine has finally come to Android

Originally on Google Play Vine App

Vine ft img

Twitter’s app for short video sharing, Vine, has finally made its way onto our favourite mobile platform. The Vine application has been found on iOS for some time now, but was until now yet to venture over to the little green man.

Now that the app is here, we can finally use it. But, what exactly does it do? Think of Vine as basically an Instagram for short videos. You can take quick clips and upload them to the Vine social network, which follows a very similar format to both Instagram and Twitter. It currently supports Android 4.0 and above, which is fine by us with today’s numbers.

Sadly, Vine does not yet allow you to share to Facebook and Twitter, but the change log says it is coming soon.

33% of Android users are running Jelly Bean, 36.5% still on Gingerbread

Screen Shot 2013-06-04 at 12.42.45 PM

The Android distribution numbers for this month are in and it looks like Jelly Bean is really picking up steam. The latest and greatest from Google (both version 4.1 and 4.2) is accommodating for 33% of all Android devices, while the leader in 2010′s Gingerbread has dropped down to just 36.5%. From the looks of things this may very well be the last month that we see Gingerbread so far in the lead, with mostly all new phones coming out running ICS and for the most part Jelly Bean.

Google’s first Holo-themed OS, Ice Cream Sandwich, is still going along nicely with 25.6% of Android devices running the OS. This means that of all active Android out there, 58.6% of …

LG is launching the budget-friendly 4G LTE LG Optimus F5 today

Originally on Android Australia

LG sent out a couple nice press releases this morning about some of their newest offerings. First up, the LG Optimus F5 is LG’s newest series device, which supposedly brings 4G to the masses. The Optimus F5 comes packing Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, a 4G LTE radio, a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm S4 processor and a 4.3″ qHD display. The F5 is a very welcome phone in today’s market, and gives LG a nice budget phone that is ready to compete with cheaper Windows Phones or phones from the likes of Samsung and HTC. Thankfully, it keeps the 4G radio for some nice speedy interwebs. It is available now from Optus or Virgin Mobile for just $299 pre-paid or on a post paid plan.

HTC One NUE announced. Will hit the Play Store on 26th June, costs $599

HTC_One_360_Wide

When the Samsung Galaxy S4 NUE (Nexus User Interface) was announced we knew it couldn’t be the only device that Google had in mind. They have now announced their second NUE device, the HTC One. For those of you that don’t know what the NUE is, it’s a non-Nexus device running stock Android. Users get the double advantage of flagship hardware and stock Android.

This raises a few questions however. Will the Sense-less One still pack features like Beats Audio, Zoe and the IR Blaster? Here are some confirmations made by HTC:

It features the hardware benefits of Beats Audio, but it does not have the software indicator in the status bar

The HTC One Special Edition contains the stock

Samsung makes the Galaxy S4 Mini official, 4.3″ display and mid-range specs

Originally on the next web

The Galaxy S4 Mini gives Samsung fans what is basically nothing but a smaller Galaxy S4 with some slightly worsened specifications. To be honest, the specifications aren’t all that bad, but with the apparent lag the regular S4 is facing, it may not be in Samsung’s favour.

The S4 Mini comes packing:

  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • 4.3″ qHD display
  • 1.7GHz dual-core processor
  • 8MP shooter, 1.9MP rear-facing
  • 1.5GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage, expandable by 74GB microSD
  • 107 grams

After shipping 10 million units of the Galaxy S4 in under a month, Samsung says that the S4 Mini is in response to the surprising amount of sales.

Moto X confirmed. Now what should we expect?

Motorola-X-Flagship-phone-for-2013-with-Android-5.0

Google I/O has come and gone and we didn’t get to see any new Android devices. No refreshed Nexus, and no mysterious Motorola X-Phone many of us were salivating over. Not to take away from the excitement of the many treats Google announced that day including the new hangouts that I’m using and enjoying immensely.

A few weeks on, and Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside and Regina Dugan have treated us to some good news to whet our appetites. According to Dennis Woodside, who spoke at D11, Motorola has a new phone for us called the Moto X coming in October and incidentally one of which he had in his pocket which he couldn’t show. However, according to Motorola’s media centre

ALDI releases a $249 10″ Android tablet with a quad-core processor, 3G radio

Originally on pc world

ALDI will begin selling is 4th BAUHN-made Android tablet from tomorrow onwards. Most notably, the 10.1-incher comes packing a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a 1280×800 resolution and space for a 3G SIM. ALDI does warn that the tablet will likely be in short supply, which is fine by us for the amazing price it’s being offered at. Better yet, the OEM’s website states that the device will come with a 16GB microSD card as an included accessory. If you’re after a relatively cheap 10.1″ tablet and love the idea of a 3G radio then this is a definite bet.

Head on over to the BAUHN website for the full specification sheet or to the source link above for the full scoop.
