Huawei announced the insanely thin Ascend P6 last night, no word for Australia yet
Last night in London, Huawei officially announced the Ascend P6. This phone is beautifully thin, has a full metal construction and weighs in at just under 120g.
From what we’ve seen, the Ascend P6 follows the design philosophy of the iPhone quite closely. It looks similar to it, has similar design guidelines and a full metal build, which isn’t a bad thing at all. The Ascend P6 one ups the iPhone though, bringing an ultra-thin frame into the fray. This beauty measures in at only 6.18mm thick and weighs just 120g.
Speaking of specifications, there’s a few more to hang out for:
- Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
- 4.7″ HD (720p) LCD display
- In-house quad-core processor
- 8 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel

[CES 2013] Huawei announces the largest smartphone(?) ever with the 6.1″ Ascend Mate & a smaller Ascend D2
This post was written by Adam Joel, who may soon join the Android Australia team
In 2012 Android fans were treated to a jaw-dropping array of monster phones, and if the drive to be number 1 from all the manufacturers has shown us anything, 2013 is going to be another year of mouth-watering beasts. The first major event of 2013 is the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and the Chinese Manufacturer Huawei has already set the bar high on the opening day. Huawei unveiled the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate and the 5-inch Ascend D2.
Lets first examine the Ascend Mate.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group believes that “The HUAWEI Ascend Mate breaks barriers to deliver a supercharged entertainment, communication …
Huawei launch the Ascend D1 Quad in Australia, brings quad-core 1.4GHz processor and runs ICS
Every now and then you’ll be told about a phone that excites you. The Ascend D1 Quad sounded to be an incredibly high-spec’d phone that would be sought after by many from around. However, with the recent announcements of other competitors, the Ascend D1 Quad doesn’t look as exciting as it previously had.
Well, the phone in comparison is specifically the LG/Google Nexus 4 that is the leading end of budget smartphones. In fact, the Nexus 4 is the pack-leader in many more areas, with the Ascend D1 Quad providing a different look, feel and custom UI experience.
It is quite disappointing to once again see a phone launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but worse things have happened….

In a press release, Gartner has estimated that Android sales represented 72.4% of total global smartphone sales in the third quarter (up from 52.5% in the same quarter last year). This represents over 122 million sales of Android smartphones in the third quarter alone!
Interestingly, despite an increase in overall sales, iOS dropped to 13.9% to remain as the second highest smartphone OS.

Huawei unveils new 326ppi flagship smartphone – the Honor 2
Sticking it to the other Android players, Chinese IT and telecommunications powerhouse Huawei announced a new flagship smartphone with specs to rival the best of them.
To begin with, the Huawei Honor 2 ups the stakes on its predecessor, the Ascend P1, with a 720p resolution on a 4.5 inch screen. This equates to 326ppi which is the same as the iPhone’s “retina display” – though we’d hazard a guess that Huawei’s 4.5 inch screen would be the better offering. On the flip side, there’s a BSI 8mp camera that’s capable of 1080p video as well as quick burst shooting.
Powering the Huawei Honor 2 is Huawei’s in-house K3V2 1.4Ghz quad-core chip, a 2230mAh battery that Huawei claims has …
Huawei displays their new Emotion UI in a 2 minute video
Huawei has today shown off their Emotion UI in a new video. It looks quite smooth, nice, intuitive and most of all – user friendly. The new Emotion UI isn’t anything too special (like what Samsung have been going at in the last year). However, it does look like the Chinese OEM has taken a page from HTC’s book and put a whole lot of nice style and design into their new user interface. Have a look at the video below (don’t worry, it’s not a 13 minute video of the Galaxy Note II) and have a look at the offerings in the new UI.
This does mean that Huawei won’t have the close to stock feel that a …
Dick Smith and JB Hi-Fi selling the Huawei Honor for $399
Well, our friend Alex is at it again! We have another phone on sale down under that has completely slipped under the radar. If you’ve been hanging out for the Huawei Honor, which I’m sure is not many of you, then it is now here!
The phone does not have the most amazing set of specs, but it is quite powerful for your standard Huawei. It’s stuck on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but there is said to be an update available or on the horizon.
The most stark features of this device would have to be the 1900 mAh battery, which is larger than you’d find in your standard Android phone. It has an 8 megapixel camera, too – but as …
Review: Huawei Vision
‘A high end feel for a mid range phone’
The Huawei Vision is a phone, which on first impression would seem less than exciting. However, the combinations of a solid build quality and the Huawei UI make the phone more-than enjoyable. Read further for my full review on the Huawei Vision.

WHAT WE LIKED
Huawei is not a name that most people are yet familiar with. Hailing from China, I too, knew little of what Huawei had to offer. But there are several features of this phone, if they are further developed, …
Vodafone adds 2 new Huawei devices to their line up
Today Vodafone has added 2 new budget friendly devices to its range. The 2 new phones are both from the Chinese manufacturer Huawei. These phones are the Ascend G300 and the Ascend Y100. Huawei have a very strong presence in Australia as a manufacturer of phones that dont hurt the bank.
These phones aren’t fabulous but they get the job done.
How do you pronounce Huawei? Manufacturer makes explanation video
A few days ago the well-known Chinese Android Manufacturer, Huawei, released a video explaining how to pronounce the brand’s name. This actually came as no surprise to us here at Android Australia as we’ve frequently had trouble correctly pronouncing Huawei! It’s a pretty entertaining video worth checking out.
jmvmain left a comment on the video further explaining the word Huawei and it’s origin:
Huawei is the official English transliteration of the Chinese name. The character 华 means “splendid” or “magnificent”, but can also mean “China”. The character 为 means “action” or “achievement”. The two characters combined (Huáwei) can be variously translated as “achievement”, “magnificent act”, or “China is able”.
It’s not exactly breathtaking news but we thought we’d make the …
