HTC One using Nokia-Exclusive Microphone Technology?

HTC_One_360_Wide

ST Microelectronics, a company that provides hardware components, has recently been found to have supplied HTC with microphone components for their upcoming flagship, the HTC One, that were supposed to be exclusively for Nokia.

A district court in Amsterdam has agreed that The One might be using Nokia-exclusive microphone technology, and has granted Nokia a preliminary injunction. Apparently, the dual membrane microphone setup seen in the One was manufactured using technology solely meant for Nokia phones. This implies a direct breach of an NDA signed by ST  between Nokia and themselves.

This can only spell disaster for HTC. The already delayed One may face further sales problems if this is found to be true. A recent profits analysis shows …

Editorial: HTC’s Brand Problem – should the One have been the Desire 4?

htc_logo-1

Samsung Galaxy S, BMW M3, Halo, Apple iPhone, Sony Playstation, and I’ll throw in Mario Kart too. Each of these names represents a product that has been updated numerous times; names that have grown in stature, and represent some of the best work each company produces in that specific segment. Each of these products adds value and desire to other products in the company’s lineup. And importantly, all of these names have been used sparingly and strategically by the parent company, and not squandered. (Note: some may claim that recently Sony has been a bit liberal with the Playstation name in regards to the Playstation Suite of mobile games, but given Sony’s recent financial woes, and the low penetration of …

Quick look: how good is the HTC One’s camera?

Camera in the HTC One.

Because I’m a huge camera geek, the amount of marketing buzzwords thrown in to describe the HTC One’s camera really intrigued me. “Ultrapixels”, you say? 3x the light capturing ability, you say? I don’t believe in buzzspeak, I believe in results; so I decided at the HTC launch to put the One up against the best cameras in the smartphone business: the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia 808 PureView. Check out the sample images after the break.

Hands-on with the HTC One

Last night, at an event hosted at the MCA overlooking Sydney Harbour, HTC Australia gave local and regional tech media their first hands on look at the just announced HTC One. Armed with a camera and a selection of the current flagship phones out today, we put the One through its paces. Read on for plenty of images and our detailed impressions!

HTC Announces the new HTC One: the One to rule them all?

htc_logo-1

Terrible Lord of the Rings references aside, HTC have just announced their new flagship model for 2013, and it is a bit of a monster.

Getting rid of the multiple “One” phones of 2012, HTC has launched a single “One” phone as their flagship model, the HTC One. This phone brings a lot to the table, so let me run it all down for you. Warning: HTC threw more marketing catch phrases and new names for things than you can shake a stick at.

SCREEN AND BUILD

The HTC One keeps the same 4.7″ screen size as its predecessor, the One X, which should be welcome news for those fearing that 2013 would be the year of the 5 inch …

Australian launch event for new HTC device set for February 21st

Screenshot 2013-02-14 at 7.23.57 AM

HTC has just sent out invitations last night for the launch event of a mysterious new device. We’re usually told in advance what the upcoming device is, but this time HTC have kept the lid on.

However, based on recent rumours and HTC’s upcoming devices, it’s likely we’ll be seeing the HTC M7, or the HTC One. This device doesn’t feature that beautiful 5″ 1080p display that we’ve seen internationally on the Butterfly J and the Droid DNA over the in the States. However, the M7 (or One’s) screen measures in at a more reasonable 4.7-inches with specs that are exepcted to get a little boost over the top.

Here’s what we’re expecting:

  • 4.7 inch, 1080p display (468

HTC M7 to be known as… HTC One

htc_logo

After the Nexus 4 frenzy we saw over the past couple of weeks, it’s time to go back to ogling the upcoming flagship phones of 2013.

Remember the HTC M7 – the upcoming 4G HTC flagship with a 1080p 4.7″ screen (at an astounding 448ppi)?

Rumour now has it that HTC’s flagship M7 device will be released to the market bearing the name “HTC One”, continuing the “One” branding started with the flagship HTC One X.  Though some of you may ask whether the “One” branding was the right name to use, it’s good to see that HTC is starting to build on model name recognition by having successor flagship phones bearing the same name, much like the Galaxy …

HTC One SV launches on Vodafone today from $50 per month

Screen Shot 2013-02-06 at 3.36.21 PM

If you’re looking for a lower end (and lower priced) 4G LTE capable (when it is available with Vodafone) device, then the One SV may be the one for you. It features lower specs than you’re usual high-end and LTE capable Android and has a smaller 4.3″ 4.3″ 800×480 pixel SuperLCD 2 Gorilla Glass 2 display.

If you ask me, the asking price is just a little on the pricey side to make this phone a serious consideration. Stacked up against the Motorola RAZR M it has the same sized screen, a slightly better display and a similar processor, but doesn’t match up to the small form factor of the M.

If you’re interested in more then head on over …

Jelly Bean_onex

Everyone loves an update, especially when that update brings your phone of choice up to the deliciousness that is Android Jelly Bean.

Now all those people that are using an HTC One X with Vodafone may have some Jelly Bean of their own, as Vodafone has released the 4.1.1 update for the One X.

Jelly Bean may not have been the huge step over Ice Cream Sandwich that Ice Cream Sandwich was over Gingerbread, but it still brings with it a range of new features to be excited about. Just a few to mention are:

  • Project Butter: an effort by Google to improve frame-rates, everything about Android is now smoother.
