Never have I ever had more people perplexed by what phone I’ve been using these past couple of weeks. OPPO R9 is one of the manufacturer’s boldest moves ever, and it’s bound to leave more than a few on the fence as to how they feel about it.
It’s a brilliant example of quality design and finish for not that much dough, but as is often the norm with heavily skinned Android smartphones, the software remains an area of improvement.
With all that said, let’s find out whether OPPO’s latest mid-range flagship stands up to its upmarket look.
It’s not entirely uncommon nowadays for OEMs to offer a couple of flagship handsets to cater to the needs of different users, and Sony has kept with this mantra for a few years now, offering a smaller counterpart in its Z series Compact models, accompanying the taller Z series handsets. Now, Sony is catering to those who want a larger handset, with its main selling point being that it’s the first smartphone with a 4K Ultra HD display.
The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium wouldn’t be “premium” if it was affordable for most, so while it’s the priciest of the Z5 range, is it worth the extra dough?
The line separating what is a manageable form factor for most, and clear phablet territory for those after greater screen real estate, could not be better exemplified than in the original two mid-range offerings from OPPO, the R7 and R7 Plus; but with the OPPO R7s there’s a happy medium that might just be for the better.
