MORE FROM

The Desire HD held the title of HTC’s flagship phone until its crown was stolen by the original Sensation. The Desire HD was my own first Android phone, which led to my current obsession for everything Android. The phone includes a great camera, high processing speed and fairly good multi-tasking power.

Its major downfalls are the battery life and glitches that it unfortunately carries in the software. Since the Desire HD was released just prior to Gingerbread, it ships with Android 2.2 Froyo, which has HTC Sense installed. But do not fear! It is upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.0 – a very significant improvement.

I mostly agree with the above review but i have to add another major downfall of the device – the volume buttons SUCK. They are really hard to press and are notorious for falling off or breaking all together. Forget about using cool app features like skipping/scanning music tracks with the volume keys, or using them as a camera shutter, they are just not up to the task.

Other than that the DHD is a great phone. I especially like having the charging port and headphone jack both on the bottom side of the device. It allows for better docking options and seems to be the better layout for when you’re wearing headphones.

    I love this device.

    Pro’s:
    >Battery is somewhat good
    >8MP camera gives fantastic quality
    >Can run on Optus/Virgin/Boost/Amaysim brands (was originally with Vodafone but have unlocked my phone)
    >Build quality is high and fantastic (metal, rubber/plastic)

    Con’s
runs Gingerbread (android 2.3.5) and won’t be upgraded to ICS (Android 4.0)
    Sense lags at times

I love this phone and have always wanted to own a HTC phone. I am somewhat disappointed at HTC decision not to upgrade the firmware/software to ICS but hopefully peep pressure will rectify that.

The Clear voice calls and loudspeaker is ok, but could do with a bigger back speaker!

Pro’s: Nice camera, display and battery life (regardless it’s only 1260), stable CM7.2, stable Android 4.0 mods available.
Con’s: GPS just doesn’t work sometimes, no front facing camera.

As a flagship device this one is remarkable. I own one for almost two years already and can’t be any more happy with the choice.
