Android rules market share, says IDC
When you think of smartphones, not much else come to mind besides Android and iOS – with the exception of a small community of geeks that happen to also appreciate Window Phone 8. And of course there’s Blackberry, which pretty much everyone knows now is Crapberry.
However, IDC, a market intelligence advisor, is reporting that Android and iOS really do own the mass majority of the market. Android is the winner in all this coming out with a 59 percent market share, in Q1 2012, compared to year previously with only 26 percent.
Apple’s not doing the greatest in comparison at the moment, with 23 percent market share; Samsung is at 45.4 percent.
Besides the major brands however, the last …
Samsung makes important fixes to Galaxy Note 10.1
Back at MWC, when Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 10.1 many a flaw were seen in the design. Most importantly the fact that the Galaxy Note’s main feature would have to be its ‘S’ pen, which unlike the 5.3″ Note, doesn’t have a stylus holder.
However, Samsung has now shown off their redesign to the device and it isn’t just a makeover! The device now has a stylus holder, fitting right into the corner, all snuggled away – but that is not even the coolest part!
The device will now also feature a quad-core processor – even if we already knew that. Regardless, this device may actually make a presence in the marketplace if Samsung can get the phablet right.. …
Motorola announces new ICS update list!
Hello Moto just updated their list of phones to be updated across to ICS and in doing so, have announced their reasoning behind updating, or not updating their devices.
The phones that will be switched across by the end of Q3 2012 go as such: RAZR/MAXX, with the Atrix, Atrix 2. Which means if you own a Motorola Android device that isn’t listed above, then like my mum used to say, “life’s a B***CH and then you die.”
“… obviously we want the new release to improve our devices. If we determine that can’t be done—well then, we’re not able to upgrade that particular device.”
Honestly, you can’t be angry at that — it is in fact very logical. I …
Crust Pizza releases Android app!
We here at Android Australia always like it when companies use an Android application to promote or help support the use of their own product. In turn, Android users appreciate the app! Which brings us back to us here at AA, who once again appreciate it because it gives us more to report on.
Most recently, Crust Pizza is that company, and God are we excited to get to use the app!
The app is very simple, and does what you would expect – order, read a menu, and find a restaurant. But Crust also gives you a reason to swap over from the more conventional way of ordering (calling them), with a thing they like to call VIPP: Very …

Today Google celebrated Mother’s Day – as did the rest of Australia, and of course us here at Android Australia. Gotta love ya mum!

Google announce the Knowledge Graph… One step closer to Siri?
We already know that while Google originally believed that Siri was essentially useless to the common day consumer, that didn’t stop them from creating their own competitor to the application. And while it hasn’t been officially released, we can almost be sure it’s close — maybe Google IO 2012?
Back just after Siri was released, we learned that Google was supposedly working on a counterpart called ‘Majel,’ but no official word has been giving on the application as of yet. Now however, after the very recent announcement of the Google Knowledge Graph — which helps narrow down your search — we can almost see it in the flesh.
Basically, as you can see from the video – this really has …
Google IO 2012 schedule announced
Every year Google holds a 3 day press conference of sorts in which they announce new products, systems and updates – as well as a little, ‘were doing really well,’ just to toot their own horn. They call this Conference, Google IO.
Besides keynotes however, the conference also consists of multiple tutorials and talk’s for developers so that Android and the brand behind it grow! This year we are expecting the announcement for the newest version of Android, Jelly Bean – Android 5.0.
While we knew when the conference was – we didn’t exactly know when everything was going to play out – now however, we have just received the schedule for all the keynotes and live tutorials.
From the …
[Leak] ASUS already working on Padfone 2?
When the Padfone was released at MWC this year, many people voiced different opinions on the device. Everyone did, however, say one thing consistently – “That’s pretty damn cool.” Personally, I was sceptical about the device – I saw many a flaw in design concept. Regardless, ASUS thinks very highly of their 3-in-1 concept, and it looks like they’re going to stick with it!
Through a leaked image from an ASUS employee strategy briefing presentation, we learn that ASUS is looking to continue the Padfone. But that’s just about all we know for the moment.
In the image they call the unknown device a “ticket to be a Key player” – while the original is referred to as the, “ticket …
Is Google releasing a spread of Nexus devices for 5.0?
Over the last few years, the Nexus phone — Google’s phone of the year — has come a long way. It has begun to make a real presence in the market, and it looks as if Google is going to possibly throw that reputation away in exchange for multiple Nexus devices.
With the upcoming update to Android 5.0 Jellybean set to hit the market by November 2012, the new Nexus device will come too. But this year, against tradition, we could be seeing five different Nexus devices!
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the 5 devices will all be sold over the Google Play Store, something available now for U.S. users with the Galaxy Nexus.
My problem with this …
Google Plus updated – only for iOS at the moment
Here’s a first for you Android geeks. Google has just released their new version of the Google Plus app. The update will include full bleed pictures, crisper sharp fonts, larger profile pics and a revamped home screen, plus many more tweaks and fixes. But would you believe that at the moment it is only available for iOS?
Yep, you heard that right – only iGeek’s have the option to download the update at the current time – which is weird considering before this update, iOS users didn’t even have an app to install…
Regardless, don’t fret – Vic Gundrota, Google senior VP, has already said the Android version is coming soon, with “a few extra surprises.” So hopefully in the …
Samsung giving away $4.08 million to App developers: sign up now!
When the first smartphones started hitting the market, something many people couldn’t get their heads around were the apps. The idea that you would download a different app for a little thing you needed to do on a phone confused many. Nowadays however, apps are vital to the way we work or play.
Samsung seems to think apps are very important as well, announcing a competition of sorts that will promote new and creative apps for the Galaxy Tab and the Galaxy Note’s ‘S pen’ capabilities.
Samsung are looking for 80 separate apps: 30 most downloaded games, 30 most downloaded non-games, plus 20 ’S Pen’ apps that will be judged by a Samsung panel. The 80 winners have a prize …
