Australian Galaxy Note Edge receiving 5.0.1 Lollipop update
The Galaxy Note Edge has had a bit of a troubled start here in Australia. Along with its sibling the Note 4, it’s seen a couple of delays before its scheduled launch date, but now it seems Samsung are making amends by rolling out the Lollipop update to local Note Edge owners first.
According to Sammobile, after having worked on their Lollipop updates for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 4 — which have still yet to roll out globally — the company has now diverted their attention to their quirky flagship Note Edge for Australia. Note Edge handsets under the SM-N915G model — the Australian variants — should be receiving the update some time soon. Keep in mind carrier branded versions could very likely be in testing, but to those who bought their Note Edge unlocked and unbranded from Samsung or an Aussie retailer, you should be able to go right ahead and spam that “Check for Updates” option.
In Android 5.0 — TouchWiz edition — expect a new Material Design inspired overhaul, heads-up notifications, multi user accounts, Android Smart Lock, a new multitasking interface and changes to notifications as well as improvements to security.
If you’re eager and finding that you’re not receiving the prompt to update your handset — and provided your Note Edge is unlocked — you can follow the steps to install the 5.0.1 firmware from Sammobile to upgrade manually. Beware though, we only advise this if you absolutely know what you’re doing.
