International Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S receiving OTA update to Android 4.1.2

Nexus7url

Got yourself a Galaxy Nexus or Nexus S from an international outlet? Well, the Android 4.1.2 update that started rolling out to the Nexus 7 last week is now available for international variants of the Galaxy Nexus or Nexus S. If you bought your Nexus from an international retailer and it is updated by Google then the update should be starting to roll out now.

My personal Galaxy Nexus (and Nexus 7) received the update today, meaning that the roll-outs have begun! The update includes a few bug fixes and the ability to use the device in landscape mode.

You know the drill – head over to the Settings -> About -> System Update -> Check Now. If the update is there then hit to update and start enjoying! Don’t worry if the update hasn’t popped up just yet, it should start rolling out for the rest of you shortly.

As always, be sure to let us know if you get the update and how it goes.

Does this also mean for those of us who have a Galaxy Nexus bought through a telco will have the update soon or are we going to have to wait still?

    • Cam Charles

nope the telcos are in no way bound/forced to get their updates out anywhere near the release from google, the telcos firstly rely on the OEM, in this case samsung to prepare the update for each locale and send it out, they then test it and send it back to samsung for distribution, absolutely none of this has any time rules applied to it, hence australian telco supplied gnex’s are still running 4.04 if your lucky (dont think telstra are?) and despite the large amount of android phones sold our telcos find no reason to speed up the process, vodafone at least are sharing more info on their blog then other telcos but how much of that is PR BS is unknown and they certainly arent doing anything to improve the process

tldr: no you have to wait

final rant/note: considering all aus telcos have pulled the gnex from shelves i wouldnt expect an update soon and i wouldnt expect many after the eventual next one, its very sad as the gnex is still one of the top phones on the market, but i can count on one hand the list of devices that have recieved updates after being pulled from sale

i said it on G+ but this is the last straw for me, i was fine waiting for Optus to get to jelly bean, but its almost a certainty now that even when they finally do it wont be this update, even if its just bug fixes im ready to plunge into converting this weird as optus build into international waters lol

also +Josh Berg can you confirm this is just bug fixes etc or does it contain the new gmail, despite its code being 4.2

Same old Gmail and not the version found on Android 4.2.

      • Cam Charles

dang, but interesting, some more evidence supporting a surprisingly soon release of a 4.2 perhaps, why bother have the gmail ready for it if its not ready :P
