Sony Xperia J, Samsung Galaxy S Duos about to launch down under

Galaxy S Duos Xperia J Allphones

Android Australia blogger Norman Ma grabbed an Allphones catalogue today and discovered a few interesting tid-bits. It appears as though we’re about to have a few more phones available down under, in the form of mid-range and dual-SIM devices.

That is, Sony’s upcoming Xperia J phone and the quietly launched Samsung Galaxy S Duos. We’re quite used to hearing about the smaller, less powerful Galaxy Y Duos, but the Galaxy S Duos is really quite an interesting device. Both of these devices are mid-range in nature, but that doesn’t make them not exciting.

The Xperia J is the first of Sony’s new range to hit our shores and is the middle of the range device. If you’re looking for a mid-range device that will surely be on the cheaper side than this could be for you. We’re not 100% sure of pricing but it will most probably be sub-$300. That being said, it still comes packing:

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 1GHz processor
  • 5 megapixel camera
  • 4.0″ full HD display
  • 1750mAh battery
  • 50GB free cloud storage for life
  • 4GB internal memory, up to 32GB expandable

The Galaxy S Duos is certainly another interesting device. It is yet another mid-range device, but also comes packing dual-SIM capabilities, meaning that you can operate two numbers on one device and receive calls from both at once. This phone is great for business or travel, but it comes at a bit of a price. The Galaxy S Duos will be priced at $385 and come packing:

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 4″ WVGA display
  • 1GHz processor
  • Dual-SIM capabilities
  • 4GB internal storage, up to 32GB external
  • 5 megapixel shooter

If you’re comparing the two devices, you’ll see that the Sony Xperia J has a slightly better screen, while the Galaxy S Duos has dual-SIM capabilities. We can expect the Xperia J to be slightly cheaper, which could draw people over. If you’re looking for a decent phone to travel with then the Galaxy S Duos looks to be a really great device and a great option.

I should’ve made a bigger deal about the free cloud storage – lifetime of 50GB is pretty unheard of…

I love the design of Sony phones I must say. I guess I wouldn’t mind an Xperia Nexus.
