Like MIUI, live in Australia? This site may interest you

Untitled

We recently wrote on the benefits of rooting your Android and installing custom ROMs. There’s many custom ROMs out there, with two of the most popular being CyanogenMod and MIUI. While there’s a whole host of support internationally, but not much down under. We’re all about supporting the Australian Android development community, so wanted to share something that one of our reader’s has been up to.

If you’re into the custom ROM MIUI and live in Australia then you’ll probably know that there isn’t all too much local help. That’s why one of our readers has started up a website called MIUI Australia for Australian developer support.

The website seems to be quite young, though the founder is involved with MIUIAndroid.com and MIUI Official English Forum.

If you’re interested in Android ROMs, in particular MIUI and want to be involved in the Australian community then head on over to MIUIAustralia.com.

Apparently it only supports mi-one? anyways, i personally use the uk build from miuiandroid.com, also, there is an american version from miui.us as well. both fully translated, no problems so far.

Yeah, they’re good too. However, we do love some local community feel. :)

Oh how I hate MIUI! It was my first custom rom on my Desire HD back in April 2011… The fact of not having an app drawer peed me off :(

Ah if you use a custom launcher such as Apex or Nova or any of the myriad of others, you’ll get your app drawer back, and still be able to enjoy MIUI-goodness in the areas where it’s stronger such as the nice dialer and generally good GUI, plus all those wonderful themes out there…

I started off only supporting the Mi-One, but now we have CosmicDan on board for the Xperia Play and soon to be more of the 2011 Xperia line-up, and a well known dev from xda is gonna be joining to support the HTC One X. And if you know any other devs who’d like to support a device, feel free to tell them to get in contact with me :). But as mentioned, a lot of my work towards helping MIUI is done outside the ROM, with MIUIAndroid and Xiaomi, but we still need somewhere to represent Australia with pride in the MIUI world.

Glad to see you join in with the comments Kane. :-) How’s the site going?

We’re now supporting the Mi-One, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo L, and the One X, as well as porting my Control Panel to all official MIUI devices, for those who don’t have a device supported by us. So even if your using MIUIAndroid’s English ROMs (as we do for a base), you can still have a little bit of Australia ;)
