Carphone Warehouse displays promotional Nexus 4 material in-store

uploadfromtaptalk1351293916545

It appears as though once again Carphone Warehouse has once again slipped up and let some more news about the Nexus 4 out. This time, however, it’s not online but actually an in-store promotional banner and subsequent pricing/variation chart. Some of the more notable pieces of information are:

  • Black & White variants
  • 12 hours talk time
  • 389.95 pound pricing
We’ve heard of rumblings about the white & black variants before, but the 12 hours talk time is quite beastly. The ~400 pound price-tag puts it at a reasonably high price point. This could be either the 8GB or 16GB variant. It is likely they’d promote the cheapest pricing, however, this could be a situation where only the 16GB form factor is sold in-store, much like the Nexus 7 in Australia.

While this certainly does sound like the Nexus 4 being sold from Carphone Warehouse is getting more and more real, there are a few things that just don’t really add up. First off, the banner does say that the Nexus 4 is running on Android 4.1 – however, this is most likely a typo.

Second, it was strange that Carphone Warehouse would let this kind of thing slip up on their website just a few days ago. What’s even stranger is for the store to actually place banners and promotional material up one day before the device was launched. If Carphone Warehouse are an official initial launch partner then you would assume there would be some kind of embargo set by Google/LG, which would definitely be broken by now.

Anyway, this could or could not be real. In either case, it looks like we’ll definitely be seeing the Nexus 4 pop up in the coming days (whenever Google finds a time to reschedule the event that was cancelled). Stay tuned.

That’s $600AU! Why so expensive? I wish they could do what they did with the Nexus 7 and make it really cheap! :P

    • cameron charles

That is a bit high even for a nexus, the nexus devices are more a high end pure google affair they gave never been particular cheap just high value for money, so we can’t really complain, but I agree I’d love to see a n7style uber cheap nexus phone but I suppose google aren’t having trouble Breaking into phones so they don’t need to loss lead

I bought the Nexus S when it came out for $499 and my Galaxy Nexus 8 months after release for $419. :P So expensive but I suppose for a quad core S4 Pro it would cost a lot

How funny would it be by the end of all this that the leaked Nexus wasn’t actuall the phone that’s going to be announced and it’s just a ploy to keep everyone distracted. :P

How hard I would laugh. I think that the user manuals on the Nexus 4 on LG’s own website pretty much guarantee that it exists though. Pricing, specs and other details could all be completely wrong though!

How hilarious that would be ;) But there’s just too many leaks for the Nexus 4 not to be real – namely the user manual.

      • deanomalino

Yea the manually pretty much confirms it hey.

Most leaked device in history then? xD

        • http://www.androidaustralia.com.au/ Josh Berg

Sounds it. It’s pretty much already sitting nicely in my pocket – at least virtually.

          • deanomalino

It’d be in my virtual pocket too if there were 32gb leaks about the Nexus 4. Had the last two Nexus phones and starting to struggle with the 16gb storage. :(

          • http://www.androidaustralia.com.au/ Josh Berg

Oh really? What do you store on your phone?

I don’t game on my phone, use Spotify for music, Google Play/Netflix for movies (which I only watch on tablet/Chromebook anyway). I’ve never had an issue wtih the 16GB on my Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 or Chromebook.

I still find it weird though that if you add up the storage of my three main devices you’ll only find 48GB.

          • deanomalino

Yea I have a few games. Big download games. Had to delete Nova 3 the other day because I needed room (it freed up almost 2gbs of space! =O ). I record a few videos, my music is on there and also a lot of photos.

I’d have put my TV shows on it, if I had the room, to watch on the bus but yea limited. I use my bulky laptop instead.

Getting a tablet may help but again I’d only get a nexus and the 7 is only 16gb. Hopefully the 32gb comes out. :)

The thing I find strange is there’s no comment from carphonewarehouse, if this Is real shit would be hitting multiple fans, they’d be taking angry calls from google /lg and a statement/apology would be forced and even if its fake there should be a statement saying that so not to piss of google/LG, weird.

Oh hey the comments live update awesome!

    • http://www.androidaustralia.com.au/ Josh Berg

Live comments are indeed quite awesome. :) It’s just a shame that when we moved to DISQUS the ‘community’ feature didn’t pick up on older comments. We’re still working on it but yours is about +250 on whatever it is after the changeover. Top commenter. :D

      • cameron charles

*looks at community tab*, wow awesome, site wide comment tracking, pretty much the feature ive felt would benefit the “community” the most since comment subscriptions went. your right though my count is a little low, looks like ill have to go through the whole site a rehash my comments …haha

        • http://www.androidaustralia.com.au/ Josh Berg

Haha, perhaps. We’re still working on it and trying to get DISQUS to recognise the older comments.

I’m a big fan of the community aspect and think it’ll be a great way for people to discover things on the site. Upvoting, image uploads and sharing work a treat too.

Please make the price lower on Goole Play or don’t reduce the price after several months it releases as other Android phones, especially for Samsung.

I’m thinking a 16GB variant sold everywhere for ~$600 and possibly the 8GB variant being a Google Play exclusive.
