Melburnians find your trams – tramTRACKER finally comes to Android!
Us Melbournians on Android have been unfortunate enough to be without one of the most useful iOS apps out there. This comes in the form of tramTRACKER and I’m sure you can guess what it is used for. The app itself has been very widely used on iOS devices and something that Android sorely lacked – an official tram tracking device. On iOS tramTRACKER has been downloaded 20,000 times a month and enjoys 800,000 tram requests per day.
Yes, we’ve had Tram Hunter that I have personally used almost on a daily basis and works quite well, but an official app is always welcome.
The tramTRACKER application comes with a whole host of welcome features. It allows you to locate nearby trams, favourites, routes, timetables and your own tram line among other features.
Yarra Trams Marketing Manager Matt McDonell tells us that they built the Android version of tramTRACKER for the “growing community of Android users.”
Prashanth Mullapudi, IT Business Analyst with Yarra Trams said:
tramTRACKER Android is the result of extensive customer research, prototyping and field trials … It’s an app built by passengers for passengers … We collected feedback from our customers and comments in online forums about what people like and don’t like about the iPhone version. We did customer research and testing to bring a new design and added features to the Android version of tramTRACKER.
From the looks of things the app wasn’t a simple transport from iOS to Android and the team did some serious research into what Android users are after. And, from the looks of things, they hit the nail on the head.
If you’re in Melbourne and want to find the right tram to catch then I’d suggest heading over to the Google Play Store for a download.
