Google Play Magazines comes to Australia

unnamed (5)

Great news! Google has finally managed to bring one of it’s Google Play services to Australia – finally! Unfortunately, this isn’t Google Play Music or the ability to purchase Movies and TV Shows (we can still rent them though).

For me, this service won’t be touched – but for those of you who do enjoy to read a paid magazine then it is essentially the same as Google Play Books, but with Magazines in replacements. Three major publishers have jumped on-board for the initial offerings, namely ACP Magazines, Pacific Magazines, and NewsLifeMedia.

It was difficult to establish which titles were and weren’t available in Australia when surfing through on my Nexus 7, but it was a bit simpler through the desktop version.  There’s the normal categorizations of top buys, staff picks, etc. but Google has also added in a few sections – Design Inspiration, Top Reads for Women, Local Favourites and some with 14 day free trials (sounds a bit like yesterday’s announcement of trials for in-app subscriptions).  If you’re after finding something that will tickle your taste buds then Google’s made it pretty simple to find what you’re after.

If you’re interested in diving into some magazine subscriptions through Google Play then head over to the store. It is available online immediately and will be rolling out to devices over the coming days.

Let’s just hope this means that Google is one step closer to giving us the Google Play Music Store and TV & Movie purchases!

I’m not sure if it was just me but far out it took a lot of mucking around and rebooting to get this working. Once working it was fine but I had to reinstall the app 3 times before it would show in applications.

i assume you guys are talking about the actual magazine reading app that is poorly done??

had a quick look through when i saw it this morning, no magazines have jumped on my “must have, lets give this a try list” and with no free trials (without a pay barrier) i havent tried the actual reading side of things, which looked good at google i/o, but im all for content equalisation, the more things in he play store the better, if they add the one or two mags i get per month these days i will happily go digital with them
