Control your Xbox 360 from your Android beginning early 2013

SmartGlass-600x300

How great would it be to control your Xbox 360 with your smartphone, for it to take control of your box and not have to always find the remote. For those of you who only use the Xbox for gaming, this won’t be very beneficial. However, for anyone that uses the Xbxo 360 for content and media – this is a very welcome addition!

Microsoft’s SmartGlass for Android is not out just yet, but it will be making its way to the platform in early 2013, according to MS. The SmartGlass app will allow you to use your phone as a controller, with some added functionality. While it doesn’t have the ergonomic positives of the controller in your hand, your Android does have a second screen. This gives you the option to view much more interchangeable content that can change the way you interact from couch to TV. If your Android and Xbox 360 are connected via the same network then it will allow you to hook in and start controlling.

The app is available for Windows platforms (Windows 8, RT & Windows Phone 8) as of October 26th, so we’ll have a better idea of what it has to offer then. There’s been an app available on iOS devices with limited functionality until now, but iOS and Android devices will be receiving the new app in early 2013.

There is no functional version of the app just yet, but Microsoft has been kind enough to display a few screenshots. You’ll need a gold membership to Xbox Live to access a few features on the Windows Phone app, but we’re currently unaware of what the Android app will offer. Here’s some screenshots:
