Motorola announces RAZR HD, RAZR M, launching exclusively with Telstra (4G) in Q4

Over in the States, Motorola Mobility has just announced three new phones. That is the RAZR M, RAZR HD and the RAZR Maxx HD. But, just as it happened with the original RAZR (well, the original Android RAZR), Motorola will not be bringing the Maxx variant down under. Well, I guess that’s not too big of a deal seeing as though the RAZR M and the RAZR HD have 2,000 and 2,500 mAh batteries respectively, making them some long-lasting devices. Both phones will be launching with Telstra in Q4 and are 4G LTE enabled.

Well, Telstra announced a few days ago that there would be 5 new 4G LTE phones before the end of the year. The 4G Galaxy S III is a certainty and now so are the RAZR HD and RAZR M. So, that leaves two. We’ve still got the Galaxy Note II, LG Optimus G, the next Nexus and the iPhone(?) pining for the last two spots. Something is telling me that even if the iPhone is 4G capable, it won’t be launching down under that way. Just a thought.

Motorola RAZR HD

Let’s start with the big boy in town, the Motorola RAZR HD. The RAZR HD is Motorola’s ticket to the high-end of devices. It ha a 4.7-inch display, a full kevlar back, Corning Gorilla Glass 2 amongst other features. The other specs aren’t powerhouse by any means, besides of course for that whopping 2,500 mAh battery. Here’s the full specs of the Motorola RAZR HD:

  • 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display
  • 2500mAh battery
  • Android 4.0.4  (soon to be Jelly Bean)
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5 GHz dual-core S4 processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 32GB of internal storage
  • NFC
  • LTE connectivity
  • 8MP rear-facing camera
It is really quite upsetting that Motorola haven’t done anything to out of the ordinary with the processor and RAM, as well as launching the device on Ice Cream Sandwich. Although, don’t worry, Moto were apparently very quick to jump to the point and let everyone know that not only at the new RAZR phones going to be updated to Jelly Bean by year’s end, but so will most of their 2011 line.
As mentioned above, the RAZR HD will be available exclusively with Telstra in Q4, 2o12. If you want to check out more or register your interest then head over to the official page.

Motorola RAZR M

The Motorola RAZR M is Moto’s ‘entry level’ devices for this year. Wait, did I just say entry level? This thing is powered by the same dual-core S4 chip as the RAZR HD, has 1GB of RAM and a lot of juice in the tank (2,000mAh). The Motorola RAZR M is by no stretch on par with other entry level device but is in fact a whole leap ahead. Oh yeah, and the RAZR M is also rocking a 4G LTE radio on the inside.

Here’s the specs that we know so far:

  • S4 processor
  • edge-to-edge display
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (Jelly Bean’s on the way)
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 8 MP camera

Pick up on that? The Motorola RAZR M is touting that edge-to-edge display that we have been gawking over for the last week or so. The display stretches from left-to-right with no bezel to be soon except for the edge of the phone. However, from top to bottom there is still quite a large chunk of real-estate available.

In any case, this phone really does stretch the boundaries and shows a whole new type of display that is on the horizon. Welcome to the new world of mobile phones everyone, is this the bezel-less display you were hoping for?

Oh yes, it’s coming. The question is – what two remaining 4G phones will be in Telstra’s 2012 line up?

No one noticed the MAXX HD is CDMA only? Will not even be able to import. Motorola stuffs up again.

Since 4G uses so much more battery the extra capacity in the RAZR HD will be used, so you will not get any improvement really.

    Why no 3G/4G MAXX?

Interesting these two devices, the strange thing about them is they are almost 1 for 1 spec-identical as the One XL and One S.

The only spec differences between the One XL and the RAZR HD is the RAZR HD has an AMOLED display and the RAZR HD has a bigger battery. I’d frankly take a Super-LCD 2 display over a Pentile AMOLED, but some people love the over-saturated AMOLED look. That bigger battery would be lovely though!

To my mind, the RAZR HD will have trouble against the Galaxy SIII and the One XL unless battery life is a high priority for you.

The RAZR M is a One S with a bigger battery and 4G. I’d think the bigger battery is somewhat mitigated by the fact that it is 4G, but 4G is YUM!!! Other than that they are exactly the same, down to the same processor, screen, RAM.

I think for the RAZR M it’ll all come down to price, if that RAZR M can undercut the One S by a significant margin that would make it a great cheaper option.
