[Update: Image unofficial] Images of HTC’s 5-inch ‘sub-phablet’ leak

Update: This image has been confirmed to be unofficial and is actually just a render from a fan.

Well, the leaks just keep coming in it seems. Yesterday, we saw that the mystery HTC device had some specs leak – and boy were they good to see. Just to boost your memory, the HTC One X5 (that’s what we’re calling it for now) has:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor (quad-core, LTE)
  • 5-inch display
  • 1.5 GB of RAM
  • 16 GB of internal storage (non-expandable)
  • Extra notification light on rear

Well, now we’re looking at some leaked press images of the device. Just as it was with the specs, it appears that the physical appearance of the One X5 is not going to let us down. It appears to have an almost bezel-less display (take that Moto) that is supposedly 1080p.

The phone is thin, damn thin. It’s mostly black with a red lining strip along the sides – this could possibly be a Verizon branding or just a design feature of the phone. I’d love if it was the latter, but it’s not all too probable.

But, why do I call it a ‘sub-phablet’? Well, this thing isn’t really a phablet after all. It’s closer to Samsung’s Galaxy S III (4.8″) and HTC’s One X (4.7″) than it is to Samsung’s Galaxy Note II (5.5″). It doesn’t have a stylus of any kind (that we know of) and it doesn’t have any extra added functionality beyond the incredibly large screen. If you ask me, this is not a phablet but rather a super-sized HTC phone for those of you who want more screen real-estate.

Take this with a grain of salt for now. In any case, we’ll be hearing more come HTC’s September 19th event in New York. Stay tuned.

love the red touches, i wish more devices had color infused into them (i know why they dont but hey)

and ye its a phone with a 5inch screen, no one like the word phablet as it is so calling it a sub-phab just sounds even tackier
