Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablets on-sale in Australia next month
Upset that Australia will be missing out on Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HD? Well, you don’t need to be too down any more. It turns out that an Australian retailer, ReaderShop, will be importing the Kindle Fire HDs to Australia in early October.
In a report to Australian Business Traveller, ReaderShop’s Leonardo Crespo said:
They’ll be available between 8- 11 of October … we don’t know the prices yet. We’ll know around 3-5 October.
As the Amazon App Store is currently not available in Australia, it seems iffy about how useful these things will be. The Kindle Fire HDs block out Google services (such as Google Play) and have all app downloads and such run through the Amazon App Store. We’ll reach out to the local retailer for more details and update this article when we hear more. Perhaps the imported versions will work with the App Store pre-installed.
The devices will apparently come with one year of local warranty and a standard Australian accessories kit. This includes an overseas power charger, an in-car charger, spare USB cable, as well as a DVD loaded with just under 30,000 free eBooks.
