Oppo makes a quad-core phone with a 5-inch, 1080p, 441ppi display

OppoFind5

These days Chinese OEMs are really stepping up their game. Huawei, Oppo, Meizu, ZTE are all bringing out phones that have great specs, are on the cheaper side and are changing the game. It’s no wonder that so many other industries have moved to China for production.

Anyway, Oppo’s newest device out in the wild – the Find 5 – is their version of a 5-inch device. After releasing then thinnest phone on the market (the Oppo Finder) the company is now trying to make a ‘slightly smaller than phablet’ device. Yeah, it’s always interesting to see a new range pop-up here and there.

The Oppo Find 5 doesn’t stop at just a 5″ screen though. That display is 1080p and has a 441ppi density – that, friends, means one thing. This display is not something to be messed with. From the looks of things it also looks like Oppo is capable of bezel-less phones too, meaning that Motorola isn’t the only one.

You’d think that with so much effort put into the display Oppo would have to skimp out on the other features. Nope. The Oppo Find 5 also features that powerful quad-core S4 Pro and measures in at just 6.65mm, making it impossibly thin.

I don’t know about you, but boy would I love to see this come down under and give the bigger OEMs a run for their money.

I present to you the Poop phone, a knock-off of the Oppo brand:

Seriously, though, these Chinese companies’ proximity to the supply chain, and the money they’re starting to funnel into R&D, is really starting to pay off. Now all they need is a bunch of designers (they’re getting there) and a bunch of advertising/marketing folks and they could easily weaken some of the smaller Android players out there.

Haha, love the PooP phone. Maybe I’ll request a review unit?

I can’t wait to see high-end devices come into our market for cheap prices. It will teach Samsung/Apple a lesson and hopefully lower the pricing of their devices. Although, it could spell the end for struggling companies like HTC. Time will tell.

The thing is, HTC followed the same strategy as the Chinese companies; they started out as an OEM for PDAs for other companies (e.g. old iPAQs), then poured money into their own R&D and broke out as their own brand. Their misstep was to not effectively market their brand and their devices over the long term (though it did work for a while).
