Four down, one to go – what’s the last remaining 4G Telstra phone for 2012?
Just a few weeks ago Telstra announced that they would be releasing five new 4G LTE phones by the end of 2012. This made us excited.
First, we had the 4G Galaxy S III. Then came the Motorola RAZR M and RAZR HD. And today, the iPhone 5 came storming in. So, this leaves us with the 4G LTE capable:
- Samsung Galaxy S III
- Motorola RAZR M
- Motorola RAZR HD
- Apple iPhone 5
This means just one thing – there’s only one more 4G phone coming to Australia’s largest 4G network by the end of the year. In fact, there’s probably only one more 4G phone coming overall.
Now, let’s break this down. There are currently three 4G phones at Telstra (three Android, one Windows Phone). As we know above there are four new ones already coming (three Android, one iPhone). This brings the total tally to – 6 Android, 1 Windows Phone, 1 iPhone.
Taking the numbers above into consideration, it just wouldn’t make sense for Telstra to bring out yet another Android phone. Seeing as though the HTC Titan 4G (Windows Phone) features yesteryear’s specifications, it would mean that the only viable options are the iPhone 5 or an Android phone. Telstra wouldn’t do that, would they?
Unless Telstra sees no value in the future of Windows Phone, then I doubt the next 4G phone wouldn’t be featuring Microsoft’s OS. However, this brings us into a bit of a pickle. What about the Galaxy Note II, what about the LG Optimus G and what about the next Nexus phone? Where do these powerhouse phones fit into Telstra’s plans?
The Optimus G will probably launch in early 2013, so we can clear that from the list. However, the last Galaxy Nexus slipped in just before Christmas last year and we can expect the Galaxy Note II to as well. But, that’s two Android phones legible and we expect a Windows Phone to make an appearance.
Right now we just don’t know, but it looks like there’s a few phone vying for the last spot. Unless, of course, Telstra decides to slip one more in.
Would you be surprised if the Galaxy Note II or the next Nexus missed out?
