Telstra 24×7 app downloaded on iOS four times more than on Android?

unnamed

On Friday Telstra made an interesting status update. It appears as though the Telstra 24×7 app has been downloaded 250,000 times on Android and iOS devices, which is really quite a remarkable number.

But you know what’s not so remarkable? It appears that the Telstra 24×7 app has been downloaded many more on iOS devices than it has been on Android. After seeing this status update I decided to check how many times Android users have downloaded the app on Google Play.

It turns out that the Telstra 24×7 app for Android has accumulated 10,000-50,000 downloads, meaning that the iOS version must have the remaining 200,000+. After Telstra has seemingly been going more and more Android, it seems strange to have the OS be so ‘out-downloaded’ by iOS. I’ve reached out to Telstra for the official stats on Android vs iOS downloads but for the time being we’ll have to go on this.

What gives? Are iOS users more ready to be downloading carrier apps? Are there more iOS users out there? The stats don’t seem to say so. Or perhaps, are iOS users more in need of 24×7 help for when their iPhone or iPad simply gives out?

It’s quite interesting to see who is downloading this app. Perhaps Android users are fed up with pre-installed carrier apps and don’t want to have any more on their phones?

Perhaps it is something to do with most versions of android can show the data usage and dont have a lot of need for another app to do the same…

pretty much this i reckon, i was just having a conversation about that with my housemate (an iphone user), he was complaining that ios didn’t have a (decent) built in one and that the telstra app takes forever to update with usage, i showed him the built in ICS one and he was suitably impressed, so ye my bet is on android users not needing the official telstra one.

also besides data checking no one is using the telstra app for anything else lol

I think a combination of the last sentence and Jordan’s comment are the real reason.

Maybe Android guys don’t like Telstra. They prefer to other carriers.

Josh, another reason Android users are likely steering clear of this latest Telstra app, is from being burned by how useless and a waste of space the previous app, Telstra One, has proved to be.

I’m new to Android – got the HTC One xl this week.
Out of habbit I suppose, I downloaded the 24×7 App, because I had it on my iPhone and iPad, and gladly it works just as well on Android.

I later discovered the Telstra One app preinstalled – it is no where near a fair comparison! The 24×7 App is leagues ahead. Highly recommend you try it, if you’re basing your opinion on the Telstra One app.
