Update (rolling out?): Ice Cream Sandwich rolling out for Australian Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Gtab10.1Aus

Update (rolling out?): Ice Cream Sandwich rolling out for Australian Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1any people are not receiving the update. There are apparently OTA issues (as Scott outlined in the comment below) and Samsung are being quite tight-lipped, as per

Samsung Electronics plans to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices soon. Specific models upgradable to ICS will vary by market.

We’ll have more for you as it comes.

Update: It appears as though the update is finally rolling out! We’ve received multiple reports of the update being received OTA! Follow the general procedures and you should have your update! Let us know how it goes in the comments below!

yourself a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 from an Australian retailer? Well, today is your lucky day. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7510 variant) has begun receiving the Ice Cream Sandwich update!

A Sydney Googler, Alex Danilo, posted on his Google+ page that the update is in fact now out and ready for you to enjoy!

As a Galaxy Tab 10.1 owner myself, boy does this make me happy. Head on over to: Settings -> About Device -> Software Update to get yourself the update. It should be available OTA and via Samsung Kies, but we’ll have more confirmation on update routes shortly.

So, for anyone who owns the GT-P7510 is it now the time to get excited. Turn on your Galaxy Tab 10,1 head over to the updates section (as detailed above) and start enjoying some Android 4.0.4 Ice Creamy goodness now! We’re not sure if it is a stagnated update, but we’ll be able to tell more as word comes in.

As always, be sure to let us know if you get the update and how it goes!

    TOOK A WHILE! lol

  • William

    Not seeing it yet.

BTW guys why does your Google auth require the “Manage my Contacts” permission? And why does it require access to ANY of the permissions when I am offline? That’s extremely invasive.

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

I believe this is done as a requirement of using the Google plugin with WordPress. I’ll run it by our dev, though. Apologies for the delayed response I must have not seen your comment.

  • ktmman

Hmmm, just checked OTA and Kies,no update for me yet :(

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Apparently you must be connected to WiFi to see the update. It should pop up for everyone over the next few days, unless Samsung are being cautious with this one.

I’ll do some recon work and see what the situation is.

  • Scott

8.06 PM in Brisbane Tue 14/08/2012 and no update OTA yet, still waiting anxiously:)

  • Scott

Workmate in Perth also no update yet OTA or kies.

  • Luke

Yea, no update yet (Brisbane). Shattered.

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Give it a day or two and you should have it. I’ll ask Samsung what the situation is too.

  • Scott

According to Alex Danilo at https://plus.google.com/u/1/113205278198625312096/posts/1mtaGX5x6G3 people are having OTA problems. I tried OTA and Kies (worthless IMO) and still get (No update available). So I guess its just hurry up and wait. Samsung really needs to get rid of their Kies software its almost useless and it seems no one can connect using it although I managed with Kies after 2 driver reinstalls. So if anyone gets the update please let us know how you managed to do it here. Thanks from Brisbane.

    • Michael

NSW still no ICS update non-rooted GT-P7510 wifi only version

also i usually don’t have a problem connecting to Kies if you are what you need to do is plug in your tablet/phone and run windows update a few times and make sure it scans each time usually if you have trouble which i know a few are this is how to fix it,

  • Bruce

If ICS is ready for Aussie GT-p7510s then Samsung should just tell us the priority order of the drip feed if it must be on drip feed.
Everyone can be happy then if they choose.

The scenario we have here is more consistent with being dribbled to a few machines to test for any problems.

Whatever just tell us! Why are Samsung seemly so gun-shy.

Yep, Still no update for ICS from Samsung… :-(

  • Scott

20/08/2012 10.38 PM. Still no OTA or Kies ICS update in Brisbane Qld for the P7510 Galaxy Tab. A workmate of mine in Perth WA says no ICS OTA or Kies update there either. Apparently someone in Dubbo, NSW has reported a OTA update today, although I forgot where I read that. Its been a lobg day at work and I didn’t have much time to make a note of it. Anyway the P 7510 tabs are supposed to be updated in July and August in Australia, and August is closing fast. So we wait some more I guess.

  • glenn

Yip, glenn here on the Gold Coast. Still no update available.

  • Tex Mex

Nothing yet! Come on Samsung stop treating loyal customer like mugs! Seriously.

  • gui

    Gui, from Gold Coast.

    No Updates yet.

Tried with both OTA and Kies :(

  • Tex Mex

Samsung emailed me back after a complaint and said no official release here yet. Still nothing. Disgraceful.

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Yep it’s very quiet on their front. We’re still hearing of people here and there getting updates but there is just nothing concrete. I’ll shoot them another email to ask.

      • Tex Mex

They should not be coy about this stuff. They should just make commitment. If the UK version is out, what is the issue with Oz? I just can’t comprehend them.

        • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Hmm, Australia has some strange regulatory requirements with updates I believe. For example, the Nexus S and emergency call bug with Jelly Bean – but only for Australia.

Vodafone made a video about if a couple months ago. I’m having trouble finding it at the moment but I’ll try pull it up for you if I can.

          • https://profiles.google.com/104377588754138080382 Colin

Surely regulatory requirements don’t apply to WiFi models?!

To Samsung’s credit, there are a huge number of builds being released across many devices and regions based on the feeds at http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/

  • Colin

    Any news?

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Sadly not. I’ll send another email to Samsung on Monday for some more information.

Optus: “4.0: Approved by Optus, Awaiting manufacturer deployment”

Vodafone: “Second round software currently in testing.”

It seems like Optus Gal Tab 10.1s will be getting the update soon, Vodafone not so much. Not sure about WiFi only models, but time will tell. I’ll update you based on what Samsung says comes Monday.

  • Michael

NSW still no ICS update non-rooted GT-P7510 wifi only version either in kies or tag software updater

  • Colin

I’m impressed with Chrome and text selection and copy/paste on my Nexus S and iPad.

This extended delay (I don’t know why I’m still waiting for Samsung to roll out ICS! Maybe it was hope) has hurt the Android platform’s reputation at the 16,000+ employee organisation I consult for. Before this debacle, there were no strong iOS/Android views.

Now there are real concerns about what “Android” truly is. An amateur manufacturer’s prototype?

Love my Android tools, but so glad I have iPads to fall back on for the important stuff!

  • Scott

I now have the official samsung Jelly Bean 4.1 rom, more later after I fully check it out and make sure it’s all legit.

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Hey Scott, how’s the Jelly Bean ROM holding up?

  • Scott

what happened to my previous comments regarding the official samsung ICS rom?

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

      Hey Scott,

I’m not sure what comments your talking about as we have no record of them. Do you have an approximate date of when you made the comment? We haven’t deleted anything that we know of.

      • David

Any idea Josh when the update will become available for 10.1 owners yet?

        • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Hey David, if you got it from Vodafone then the update should be just around the corner. Voda has approved the update and it is currently pending a roll-out by Samsung – http://android.gy/4x2pw

          • https://profiles.google.com/104377588754138080382 Colin

Isn’t that the same status that Optus has been at for weeks?

          • David

Hi Josh, I’ve got the Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi only version..got it from officeworks (discount from a mate)

          • David

Further to that..it’s a Galaxy Tab 10.1 64GB Wifi only..no update to ICS which sucks..disappointed in samsung.

  • Roan

Still no update available in victoria..hurry up samsung!

  • Colin

Really frustrating owning a Samsung device. Their deliberate delays combined with incompetence makes me wonder…

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

This is a reply to your above comment as the maximum in a thread is 5 comments. Optus have been saying that for weeks but Vodafone tend to be a lot more reliable with this.

  • Richard Cikursch

If my wife would let me,her tab would have been rooted and cm 10 installed weeks ago, this waiting for Samsung is ridiculas, thank the Gods for XDA forums.

  • alan blackshaw

Any word on android 4.0 for samsung galaxy tab 10.1 wifi only? I’ve read the discussion on this but still no update for me in NSW. So frustrating. Just about ready to toss the galaxy for an ipad

    • David

Very disappointed with samsung..maybe it’s not coming out.

  • Rob

Talked to a Samsung rep today at sydney george st store & all he could say was its not likely to hit in the next two months as they are getting ready for sgs3 oct jellybean release.. what does that have to do with 10.1 wifi tab grrr.. useless!!!

    • David

Yeh ICS not coming out on galaxy tab 10.1

  • Nic

I have nothing yet, still waiting and very disapointed at the moment, optus still are clueless to when it will come out. And Samsung reps not revealing a thing. VIC

  • David

Don’t think anyone has been told yet, but ICS is not coming out on tab 10.1 :( Not happy..might as well go and buy a new tab!

    • Colin

Yep, haven’t been told myself. Who from Samsung told you?

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

This is not looking good… Perhaps another email to Samsung about it today. Although, the Vodafone variant in Australia has been updated. Where is yours from?

      • Ben

My tablet is from Australia, hopefully you can find out some more info for us all, it would be appreciated very much. I don’t see why they cant just give us the update already. Most of the planet already has it don’t they?

  • Ben

Since this post I have been waiting patiently for the update, extremely disappointed with Samsung’s support, It’s a lot of money for something that is instantly obsolete, should of gotten an Ipad which I don’t like but at least they keep there updates consistent.(Gt-p7510 64gb) Bris QLD.

  • Glenn

So, no update for the GT-P7510 Wi-Fi only? Is that confirmed?

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Not confirmed. Samsung just won’t say anything about it.

  • Rob

Gave up waiting finally went and got a Asus Transformer Prime TF300T its sweet and jellybeen update downloaded. couldn’t get better than that!! ohh also it was a bargain for $300 ow price matched rt edwards new helensvale store.. time to root the galaxy tab here i come xda since its an old toy now :-)

  • Rod

Any news? Samsung are not going to get repeat purchases from me if they announce an update and then just change their minds.

  • Ben

Any news about the ICS update yet? I’m thinking it’s not gonna happen if it hasn’t already. Really all the other brands have gotten their finger out, why cant Samsung.

  • pezlee

just got the ICS update today!! finally!!…

    and about time too

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Really! Where did you purchase it from?

      • pezlee

my tab is just a wifi only version from harvey norman…… purchased december the week it first came out here in melb.

don’t know if it’s just my tab or not… but my wifi keeps dropping out…

  • harishha

updating right now in Melbourne over wifi.

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Exciting, purchased in Aus? Let us know how it is!

      • harishha

yes, purchased in Australia in Feb this year. will post updates. still 13 mins to go for the download, at 230 mb the update is quite sizable. fingers crossed.

  • Erebus

Just had the OTA ICS update offered for my GT 7510 WIFI bought in WA. Will wait to see how others go before downloading though. But at least the OTA update finally came.

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

Seems to be a few WiFi issues.

  • Erebus

In relation to what, Josh? The download process, or after the update?

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

I don’t have the update myself but I think after the update. Not 100% sure though.

      • pezlee

        mine occurred after update.

  • Erebus

I think I will stay with honeycomb. :)

  • harishha

Done with my ICS update. Much much better user experience. The operating system is very responsive. No issues with wifi yet. I have the wifi model. Love the neat display

  • Ben

Wow finally got the update pop up yesterday (Brisbane)and had a nearly flat battery so had to charge and wait until today to update, done it via Kies am impressed so far, no WiFi issues as of yet either, fingers crossed, seems nice and smooth no issues with sounds vids or apps, about time Samsung released it. (Gt-p7510 64gb)WiFi only.

    • Erebus

Updating now… will report back later. (GT7510 32GB WiFi only)

      • Erebus

Well, all done and it seems fine so far. Took a few mins to get all the apps back on the home screen, but once that was done I was able to enjoy the shiny new wonder that is ICS. Everything seems a lot smoother and quite stable thus far, thankfully. :)
