Optus Sony Xperia S receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

sony xperia s ics

Optus has yesterday made a Facebook status that their Xperia S devices will be receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – finally. This comes a few weeks after Sony came out themselves saying that all Xperia S devices will be receiving the update. Well, about 8 months after ICS first came out and about 5 months after the Xperia S was launched (yeah, it doesn’t make sense) we now have ICS on this device.

The ICS update for the Xperia S provides quite a few great updates for the phone, which Sony laid out clearly a few weeks ago. It gives you the ability to do many things and Sony is particularly excited about one part

First off, we’re excited to introduce a completely new way to experience your media – your music, images, videos, movies and films – with our new “WALKMAN”, “Album” and “Movies” applications.

The update also has improved notifications, widget placement and text message usefulness.

If you’d like to get the update you can plug your Xperia S into your computer and access the PC Companion, it should tell you there is an update waiting. Hit the update and wait for the creamy goodness to be rolled into your phone. But the question remains, will Sony be updating the Xperia S and other phones to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean?

As always, let us know if you get the update and how it goes!
