American judge Koh asks Apple’s lawyers – ‘Are you smoking crack?’

Over in the States the case between Apple and Samsung really is getting heated. That is, the case about patent issues between the two companies that may see billions of dollars in damages paid. We’ve seen numerous renders drawn up, multiple images of early phones and designs, tonnes of emails over the last few years – and – the tediously spelt out patent filings. However, there’s one thing that has really caught our eye. One thing that brings humour to what is otherwise a case that could mean very serious things for Samsung, Apple and Android.

The presiding Judge, Lucy Koh, has laid into Apple’s lawyers. After Apple presented a document that would potentially call out 22 witnesses to rebut Samsung’s case, judge Koh got a bit angry. Let’s just say, a bit angry. After the jury had left the room Judge Koh stated to the Apple lawyers -

Unless you’re smoking crack you know these witnesses aren’t going to be called!

Good on her. Someone needed to stand up to Apple against the ridiculous nature of this (and all other worldwide) court cases on these trivial patent issues. Sure, they do need to protect their intellectual property, but so much of what they are protecting can barely count as being their own intellectual property.

Well, we’ll see where the case goes from here. As always, we’ll be keeping a close eye on it and updating you all on any important information. You know, if any more judges make some hilarious remarks or if Koh unleashes her wrath of fury once more.

I feel as though I was a bit one-sided towards Samsung in this article. It is true, the fault is definitely on both sides. All of this is just far too ridiculous.

Thank you Lucy Koh, you made my day and told off two of the biggest companies in the world.
