Google Play gift cards will not be available in Australia at first

pltyys

After reporting this morning that the Google Play gift cards are on the horizon, I was a bit anxious as to whether we’d be seeing them in Australia. After some more great work by the guys over at Android Police I was able to do some Australian recon work. I checked whether the updated Google Play Store is able to access the redeem page, which Americans have had no problems with.

Lo and behold, just as I had feared – it looks like the Google Play Store in Australia will not be giving access to gift cards, yet. What you see on the right is the page displayed when attempting to access the store from Australia.

Oh Google, why must you always leave us out with all the goodies.

There may be a work-around when the service actually launches officially by Google. Or, Google will be nice enough to give us the gift cards themselves. Either way, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one and try get access to Google Play gift-cards down under.

Told you so! I hate how so many companies are biased to Australia :(

its pretty hard to defend google on this one but in alot of cases there are factors beyond googles(and others) help that make delayed releases in aus an annoying situation the least of which is the likes of record companies and such be so tied to the archaic ways they dont allow companies to sell songs here (pretty much the reason we dont have real play music yet) there are alot of situations where if aussie companies, laws an governments would just chill out and accept the inevitable we would be alot better of, the tv industry is a real good example.

in short not always googles fault…however in this case no excuse get the cards to retailers push the update how hard is that to do globally

urgh no surprise really this is one of the few things i hate about google, and this is true for many large corporations but im a google loyal customer so here so its more, that is there lack of globaliation, i know there are challenges but google is a huge corporation with billions in the bank but they seem to fail every time to release features and such globally the play store has so many differing levels of service country to country its mind boggling and now the gift cards easily one of the best things to happen to the play store in ages arent even hitting the stage globally, theres not even a decent reasom for it either, did target so no to stocking them so they gave up?

I lived in the UK for awhile, and they get left til later and have to pay more. It’s because Australia isn’t as big market as the US, less then 1/10th the size in fact. Don’t hate google. Hate the system.
