Google Now updated to include new cards – Movies, public alerts, sports

original

Before you continue reading you should know that these updates are only for the US and Korea right now.

Google Now has received its first update since it launched and made the Android scene overall a whole lot better. If you’ve got an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean running phone then your Google Search app would have just been updated for:

  • Movies – be alerted of movie schedules when near a cinema
  • Public alerts – receive emergency alerts for public disasters/events
  • Sports – Add in your favourite sport team to receive updates (not Aus sports).
The movies and public alerts are quite self-explanatory. I for one think it’s really great to see public alerts entered into the Google Now offerings as it has the potential to not only benefit people but save lives.
In the sports section you have the choice to add in a variety of sports – from hockey, to European soccer to baseball. However, as we’ve come to expect there are no Australian sports just yet.

I’ve reached out to Google for word on Australian information and will update this post when I receive a reply.

I have had the Google Search (Google Now) update since Thurday morning in little ol’ Adelaide.
I’m on an Intl. Nexus butI don’t see how that would matter if you already have Jelly Bean.

the update will come to anyone with Now which is legitimately only those with jellybean on a gnex really but the new cards will only be able to find info for US and korean markets, ie you wont find any useful AFL info (if such a thing existed)
