Optus Galaxy Nexus gets Android 4.0.4 – Finally!

galaxy-nexus436v-scaled

Some good news for Optus Galaxy Nexus owners today as Optus have finally pushed the 4.04 out to the Galaxy Nexus around the country! While this is great news, it can only be described as ‘finally.’ It’s been a long wait for Optus Galaxy Nexus owners with no news or sensible help giving about the updates. Take a look at this ‘help community’ post about the update, Things like this should just not be happening.

To make things worse, this update has quietly whispered out the gate without any news, blog posts or emails sent. Even the Optus Android update page still reports the latest version as 4.02. I for one only knew about the update this morning when I got the OTA update available popup. Upon checking the aforementioned community post, you can see that one person got the update yesterday.

In the Android ecosystem its a sad fact that knowing if and when a phone will get an update is a big thing. This update shouldn’t have quietly slipped out as it should be front page news on Optus’s non-existent Android news centre. They have beaten Telstra to the 4.0.4 punch – that alone would swing a few customers.

It’s great the update is here, it means I can finally play GTA3 for more then 5 minutes without the multi touch failing. But the manner in which Optus are handling updates is leaving a lot to be desired. Unfortunately for us, no Aussie telco is doing it well enough to make the rest look bad enough for a change to occur, a much needed change.

Bought a Nexus last night and first thing that popped up on the screen was the 4.04 update.

a quick follow up to this post, a month on and well it seems optus didnt take so long to get the update out because they were testing anything, i get regular requests to emails crash reports to google, the phone doesnt freeze or reset it doesnt even blink but it does vibrate and pop up saying email this to google which is as you can imagine rather annoying in the middle of a GTA mission

needless to say its flashing time…just have to figure out which img to use as optus used some wacked out version rather then just yakjudv? like everyone else
