Australian Judge says Apple v Samsung dispute is ‘ridiculous’

ausjudgeapple

As the global court-cases between Apple and Samsung begin to heat up, an Australia judge has become fed up with the situation. The Australian part of the global war is a prelude to what is about to go down in the US and Great Britain. However, after just one day of quarrels and patent/copyright nonsense, the Australia presiding judge has decided that she has just had enough – and good on her.

Judge Bennett asked the companies’ lawyers yesterday -

Why on earth are these proceedings going ahead? It’s just ridiculous … Why shouldn’t I order the parties to mediation?

So, why on earth is this happening? Why has the tech world gotten to the point where so very much of the money is spent on litigation, where it could be spent on innovation?

While I don’t want to seem biased, Samsung is simply retaliating against Apple for their series of patent infringement cases over the Galaxy line. This resulted in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to not be sold in Australia for quite a while. I guess that would piss anyone off. In retaliation Samsung has decided to get in Apple’s business about not purchasing the rights to use Samsung’s patented 3G technologies in regards to the wireless transmission of data – which they’ve been doing since the first 3G-capable iPhone in 2008.

Well, it looks like Sammy and Apple’s lawyers have more on their plates than just fighting each other. So Samsung and Apple, why on earth are you still fighting? Can’t we all just be friends..?

i agree that everyone all over the world is starting to get annoyed by these tech giants. in the UK, cases happened that made me think the Brits have a pretty good sense of humour – they said Samsung’s products were just not as cool as Apple’s and then made Apple publicly announce that Samsung didn’t copy them. Competition is great in the eyes of the consumer, ‘cos it means better quality products for us, but I do wish both companies would stop fighting with each other in court and wasting everyone’s time.

I too wish that the endless litigation would stop. The problem is that most of Apple’s revenue comes from mobile and Samsung is taking that from them. Right now for Apple it’s go time to make a change with themselves and Samsung and regain top spot – but they won’t do that through courtcases. In my opinion they should be focusing all that money on R&D instead.
