Telstra’s Device Update Schedules – For Phones & Tablets

Untitled

Telstra are really affirming their status as ‘Australian Android Kings,’ with a fresh range of Android phones and tablets, as well as being Australia’s only provider of 4G Androids.

However, for any Telco, keeping on top of the device update schedule is a literal minefield. So many devices, so many manufacturers and software levels to keep track of.

And of course as, savvy consumers and users we always want our ‘Droid as up to date as possible. However, there is just so much confusion around the updates. It’s all dependant on where and when you bought your Android, sometimes what hardware revision number you have, etc, etc..

Well Telstra have come out on the front foot, building specific web pages to deal with this dilemna. This is just another service you can rely on with Australia’s #1 mobile carrier.

There are specific pages for tablets and smartphones, depending on your requirements.

So here’s a look at the tablet update schedule, as we can see ICS is currently being worked on for both the XOOM 2 and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 4G:

On the smartphone side of things, we can see Jelly Bean is on the horizon for the Galaxy Nexus, as Telstra confirmed not long ago they will still support this handset despite dropping sales of it:

And don’t forget, to stay on top of all things Android at Telstra, visit their dedicated Android page; and whilst you’re there, hit the update pages regularly.

Wishful thinking for Jelly Bean to come so quickly! Good news that 4.0.4 finally came though.

Yes silly me :) I got the Nexus after my original Desire was bricked my a factory data reset and got it because it had none of the Telstra crapware that consumed way too much of my Desire. I was also hoping that this would also put me on the Google/Samsung upgrade timetable rather than the Telstra timetable, since there would be basically very little to test. Silly, silly me!
