App Review: SMS Popup

I’m always looking to find applications to make things better. That is what SMS Popup does – it makes SMSing better. There are a couple of reasons why this is the case. Firstly, it allows me to quickly preview messages. Secondly, it allows me to quickly respond to such messages. The features, to a normal onlooker, would see them as being fairly average – but I can assure you that they are not.

First of all, the ability to quickly preview messages is something that is not all that common on Android. Prior to SMS Popup, I would receive a message, unlock my phone, pull down the notification bar, and go into my messages. Now, I receive a message, and can respond immediately. Whilst it might seem I am being lazy, and the effort I am saving myself from is trivial, technology is here to make our lives easier – this is exactly what ADAM K, the developers of SMS Popup have done.

Secondly, the quick response function is smooth and easy, as long as you can remember the contents of the previous message. All you have to do is you’re your message, press quick reply and type your message. Simple, right?

There is an endless amount of customisable options to fit this app into  your lifestyle – and with the new Ice Cream Sandwich layout, it looks even better.

This application still has a few bugs to iron out and is not without its faults, but if you have a bit of patience for the rare glitches, then I would definitely suggest getting this app now.

    how do this ones popups handle other apps, mostly full screen games etc, i used to use gosms’s popup feature for a while but even with its supposed “not during fullscreen mode” options it still either popd up over them or lag’d them to crap, this could have been the phone not app but im interested to know how this one goes

    I like it but I find that it is not nearly as usable as the notifcation panel that android provides. the notifications are one of android’s strongest points so i don’t see why to ruin or change that

      The best thing about Android is its ability to be customised to great lengths. What SMS Popup allows a user to do is quickly review messages, and reply immediately, or simply close them for a later time. It saves the extra effort of having to open a message and exit a message all the same. Frustratingly, this app is not updated often enough – but I have been using this for over a month and find it to be quite fluid, and overall, it improves my Android experience.

    I downloaded it yesterday and seriously love it already. Such a nice alternative to the iPhone pop-up too.
