VIA launches $49 Android PC

I recently reported on the $74 Android Mini PC USB. However, this is something slightly different – VIA has managed to create a $49 Android PC (APC). The APC is simply a motherboard, with a variety of inputs and outputs. While it doesn’t have the most flashy specs, the VIA Android PC is very capable of running minor tasks (and at $49, who can complain!).

  • Android2.3 Gingerbread
  • VIA WonderMedia ARM 11 800 MHz processor
  • 512MB DDR3 RAM
  • 2GB of on-board flash storage
  • 4 USB 2.0 ports
  • a microSD slot
  • Ethernet port
  • VGA and HDMI display ports

To use the APC you can simply hook it up to any monitor through the VGA and HDMI ports and plug in any keyboard and mouse through the USB ports. And presto, there you go! You now have an Android PC running for the cost of $49!

You’ll probably want to house this thing in a case to avoid damage. There’ll be a variety of casings available to place the VIA APC in and according to geek.com you should be able to pick up a tiny/cheap case easily. It is of the same form factor as both Mini-ITX and MicroATX.
