Android to be put on trial today

Oracle will finally be placing Android on trial today, Monday 16th April 2012, over in the States. The software company, Oracle, believes that Android has infringed on patents in regards to Java coding. This is a big deal for the patent world and could set a precedent of whether or not one can license a coding language – in a sense

Oracle initially believed that Google owed $6.1 billion in damages, which is a bit ridiculous by any measure. However, due to cracks in Oracles case this amount has dwindled down to only $110-225 million.

If Oracle wins the court-case they could choose one of two options. Oracle could force Google to pay royalties for Android, or worse, stop Android from using Java altogether. This could be a major blow for Android and change the operating system completely – but let’s hope that’s not the case!
