Updated (09/09/12): Is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Coming to Your Phone?

ics-main
We’re all interested in having our phones upgraded to the newest operating system, but what we all really want to know is – when is it coming to me?! If you’ve been out of the loop and don’t know what we’re talking about, read our Top 10 reasons to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
In general, if you’re phone is younger than 6 months old you WILL be receiving the update, with selected older ‘high-spec’ models also being lucky enough to dig their hands into some Ice Cream.
Now down to business of naming phones -

HTC -

Official statement has been made stating that certain phones will receive the much sought after update. This includes:

If you’re in America or have an American phone, HTC will also offer support for the

  • Rezound
  • Sensation 4G
  • EVO Design 4G
  • Amaze 4G
  • Vivid
  • Thunderbolt
  • Flyer
  • DROID Incredible 2
  • Incredible S

Let’s hope Telstra’s newly announced 4G phone, the HTC Velocity, will have an upgrade heading its way. For the first 4G phone in Australia it would be preposterous if it were to miss out on some Ice Cream Sandwich UPDATED: HTC Velocity 4G has been updated to Android 4.0 ICS.

How about about the future of HTC Sense and Android 4.0?

SAMSUNG -

Sadly the Samsung Galaxy S and the original Galaxy Tab will not be receiving the update. However, Samsung has made up for the bad news with a long list of devices to be updated -

MOTOROLA -

Motorola have a relatively ‘quiet’ list, with only three devices expecting (one already receiving!) updates.

The -

will be receiving the updates in the near future. While they may have a small list, Motorola have been quick to push the update out. The Motorola Xoom WiFi is one of the first devices/tablets to receive the tasty goodness that is Ice Cream Sandwich. It is receiving an over the air update which is rolling out as we speak in US! The Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition will also be receiving the update very shortly.

ASUS:

ASUS has been the quickest mainstream OEM to issue Android 4.0 upgrades to its devices.
The newly released quad-core Transformer Prime has already been issued the upgrade. The original Transformer (TF101) has also now received the tasty goodness of Ice Cream Sandwich. The Eee Pad Slider (SL101) has also received the update!

ACER:

According to Tablet Online (in Polish), the A100, A101, A500 and A501 tablets will be upgraded in early 2012. UPDATE: The Australian sector of ACER have also confirmed that the A200 will be receiving the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

HP:

The HP TouchPad has life! After initially being nothing more than a boot-up device on ICS, the TouchPad now has a stable build in nightly form under CyanogenMod. Link coming.

SONY:

Sony have stated they will be rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to the entire 2011 Xperia line. This will be starting in mid-April!

This includes the:

The 2012 line of update-able devices includes:

Sony have also announced that the Sony Tablet S (updated – Sony Tablet S update available!) and Tablet P will be receiving the update at the end of 2012.

One thing is for sure, we hope the OEMs get this update out ASAP for all of these devices. Once you get it just sit back and enjoy!

No sign of Vodafone AU Xperia Arc Android 4.04 updates!
Despite it being approved and available from Vodafone UK.
Vodafone noted on its update blog that Xperia S is next to get an update.

It appears Vodafone AU is NOT APPROVING any Xperia Arc update to ICS!

  • Ben

Vodafone NZ has approved the NZ update (SI 1246-2387) which is on the SI list at the Sony website.

Vodafone AU has NOT approved the AU update, but this week’s ICS blog notes it’s ‘in testing’ along with the flagship Xperia S.

    Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich”:
Sony Xperia S Currently in testing.
    Xperia arc Currently in testing.
    Xperia ray Currently in testing.

    That’s better than nothing!

    I can hope but I doubt it…

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

LG have been quiet on when the update should be rolling out. I’ve reached out to them for dates and prospective updates but have no response as of yet. I’ll keep you posted when we hear more!

Does anyone in Andriod Australia know when Samsung Australia will release the premiun ICS update for the generic Galaxy Note GT-N7000 australian baseband XXLA4. ?..This GT-N7000 has already been released in Europe,Asia.Canada and today AT&T is releasing their version in USA but nothing is said about Australia. I will appreciate any news about it. We were expecting this ICS update in June. Now we don’t know if australian Galaxy Note owners will receive this update.

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

We’re not sure right now as Samsung hasn’t shed any light on the update. We’ll keep you updated as soon as the update goes live in Australia and post a piece on the site.

26 days after my post above:
Vodafone AU has had the Xperia Arc AU ICS update as being ‘in testing’. Since then, Xperia S is also added. All three have been on the VF page for 3 weeks.

Hopefully VF AU and Sony get this approved and the SI numbers put into the updates.

Will they be available as upgrades sometime in late July?

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

We can only hope so. We’ll keep you updated when we hear more but unfortunately we can’t hurry up any of the processes.

It looks like here in Australia will be the last one in the world to receive the ICS update 4.0.4 for our unlocked generic Galaxy Note sim card free GT-N7000 as someone from an Allphones Store in Sydney told me, Australia would be last because were a very small market for Samsung. Now how can Australia change this mentality from Samsung. Here is the solution: If you have bought an outright Galaxy Note GT-N7000 and are waiting and waiting for ICS update 4.0.4 ring, email or chat online to Samsung Australia and demand your update. I did it myself but one person cannot make a difference. We need your help on this matter. Otherwise this company will laugh at us because they think we are too easy going and never demand our rights. So wake up and contact Samsung Australia.

when does the Galaxy s2 Model GT-I9210t get it cus i dont get a fucking update

    • http://androidaustralia.com.au Josh Berg

We’ll look into it for you! Could I ask where it was purchased from so that I can inquire?

    • Walter

This is a Samsung orphan!!! They will drag it out to next year, even though the TELSTRA Advertising says Quote “Super fast 4G connectivity
Android Gingerbread 2.3.6 operating system (upgradable to Android 4.0 in the future)”
      End Quote

The they will say it dosn’t have a Quad core proceser and it won’t work smoothly enough, even though a HTC Desire II can run it…. Whats the go here!!

I recon it will be the first 4G phone in the world not to get ICS!!!

Waiting for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi – painful given I use a Jelly Bean phone, the Tab’s Gingerbread text editing is buggy and pisses me off often.
